None of the above. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is much better than the first one.
They should watch Wayne's World instead.
The party-stopper in our house was always "Big Trouble in Little China."

Is your son cute?
Invite everyone, have a block party.
Settlers of Catan is BORING?!?
You clearly aren't doing it right. You need to play with a certain spirit of....vengeance. If she's boring, make sure you decimate her little wooden cities every chance you get and then yell, "This is....SPARTA!" before kicking her chair over.
Sis sounds like she prefers to spend her time with things that have complexity (eg, people with depth of personality, and complicated board games, are two things you've mentioned)...But talking insurance, and work, and her last assessment just does not fill me with the hostess's appropriate 'bonhomie'.
Apologies for slightly mashing the quotes together, but someone interested in their "insurance, work & [their] last assessment" does not strike me as someone with significant depth of personality!
I still say the alcoholic blonde would provide tremendoes amusement value. At the very least, she and the sister could compare notes on whose life is more tragic. Comes to think of it, there should be a board game on THAT.

It's always I pain when you want to drink and you have a guest who plans on being teetotal. Why not go and take in a show or movie or something, that way you don't have to converse because you're focusing on something, yet you will all still be entertained.
Her conversations of choice do sound like a bore, I refuse to believe anyone would spend their birthday discussing such things! Maybe she'll surprise you though... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

It's either that or 'Britains Got Talent'. The quote 'rock and a hard place' springs to minds![]()
That's cruel and unusual punishment. My 13-year-old daughter doesn't watch that crap, fer crying out loud.
I'd go with the booze. While the friend and/or son may be entertaining at least with the booze you can be certain of the outcome (in my case, violent heaving after 1/2 a bottle of cheap chardonnay, but I'm sure you're not as big a wimp as I am). And it would make playing Twister that much more interesting.Whatever your choice, good luck, and I hope the evening won't be as bad as you fear it will be.
