So Man's sister is coming round tomorrow night to celebrate her birthday for nibbles and boardgames. And I mean the boring boardgames ~ Carcasonne, Stone Age, Settlers of Cassan etc. Not Twister or Monopoly! I do not really find her company incredibly entertaining.
So to make the night more fun for me I would like to invite more people. So who should I invite to help me?

1. The newly broken up from an engagement, 50 year old, surgically enhanced, blonde alcoholic girl friend. (Would be amusing to me!)

2. My stoned Son and a friend who will expect pizza and beer. (Have a feeling I may end up watching Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and neglecting Sister)

3. George Clooney. (Although he has said with the plane situation he may not be able to make it)

4. Grit my teeth and drink all the money I would have spent on the above.

Well I can't decide. Can you?

5. Me.

Hide the boring board games, and if she asks tell her you couldn't find them. Then have the fun ones partly set up for when she arrives.

1. & 2. Your son might hook up!

Hmm ~ not going to happen ~ enough said. But nice idea. Actually not ~ she's a bloody nightmare and the only reason I thought of it was to scare Sister in Law ever coming round again

I'll take that and I WILL send you train fare!

Man spends a fortune on these games and to be honest I find them tedious. But Sis would probably enjoy. It's either that or 'Britains Got Talent'. The quote 'rock and a hard place' springs to minds :(

So it is Man who is really the board games lover, not so much sis? If you can find something you have in common with her, then you might end up enjoying your evening together, and the board games don't get a look in.

The ideal would be for you to give her a happy birthday evening, and to enjoy the evening yourself. :)

Comedy programmes on television can be good to have on in the background if you're entertaining, because you know how people find things funnier when they have guests, and that can be something to divert attention to if any of you feel bored.

Why do I always end up choosing the alcoholic blonde in these sort of situations...?

And surgically enhanced? Holdy what are you doing tomorrow night?

Yes Man is the game board geek and actually a member of the site of that name. It's Man's idea for the games, I think to distract and give us something to concentrate on so as not to have to make conversation.
I do not have a lot in common with Sis. I find her boring and I have the feeling she thinks I lack gravitas. It would be a lot easier if she got a cab and had a couple of G&Ts and relaxed a bit.
But talking insurance, and work, and her last assessment just does not fill me with the hostess's appropriate 'bonhomie'.
I think I will go with the stoned teenagers and X Factor. or whatever, in the background, and the eternally boring boardgame. And wine, lots of wine, and painkillers and hopefully the evening will be over at about 10.30pm for me at least :D

When all else fails... there's always Scrabble.

Now they've let all the new words in ~ Let's do it! What time will you be down Zee?

There's this place I go to... 8 letters, begins with F and rhymes with, er, "Basefook." ;)

Facefork? Send pics!

Invite Jesus. :)

He's always a downer at these sort of suppers, going on and on about dying tomorrow.

But we're just having crisps and dips ~ would he bother turning up?
And I do have a strict 'No Sandal' rule!

I think Pizza-eating stoned Son and friend are the best bet. And the games sound like they might be fun.
