How to rank films: IMDB, Oscars, Gross, and Rotten Tomatoes AVERAGE

I was kinda interested to see how movies would rank based on several criteria.

"Popularity vote": IMDB score
"Artistic merit": Oscar nominations (1 point) and Oscar wins (3 points)
"Commercial success": Movie's gross earnings as a percent of it's budget
"Critic response": Rotten Tomatoes score

I looked at the top 5 films from IMDB and the top 5 all-time grossing films (inflation adjusted). I then looked up the necessary info based on the stuff above, and calculated the overall Oscar score.

Here's how they rank (after doing all the calculations):

1. The Godfather (#1 on Rotten Tomatoes)
2. Gone with the Wind (#1 in Oscar rank; #1 in "commerical success")
3. The Godfather: Part II
4. Star Wars
5. E.T.
6. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
7. Pulp Fiction
8. The Sound of Music
9. The Shawshank Redemption (#1 in IMDB rank)
10. The 10 Commandments

Re: How to rank films: IMDB, Oscars, Gross, and Rotten Tomatoes AVERAG

(1) Isn't Metacritic a better average of critic's reviews than Rotten Tomatoes?

(2) IMDB isn't a good indicator of anything, since there's no limitation on voting, and voting isn't well calculated. One person could vote multiple times for something with multiple IMDB accounts. So it's not one person, one vote. And extremely negative and extremely positive votes are weighted less than average votes, IIRC.

(3) Commercial success is hard to evaluate, since budgets are often underreported and the percentage of earnings that go to the exhibitors vs. the distributors has changed over the years.

Still, I admire your effort here, even if it's put Gone With The Wind near the top.
