Recently, I watched the TV series on the Science channel entitled, Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole. It is a series of shows that delve into the mysteries of the Universe, and man's application, or understanding of how the Universe works, and what the Future may hold. It delved into the cosmic string theories, and Black holes, and so on.
There was one episode in particular which peaked my interest immensely, and that was the application of Time Travel. The Specific episode is called " Is Time Travel Possible?"

After watching that episode, it became clear how time travel with the time lords is possible, and yes, it is indeed a Time Vortex..
Here is what I learned:
In the Universe, the entire Universe, with Galaxies and all, if you were to fly away from the Earth at light speed, and then look backwards, you would be seeing light from our solar system that was broadcast 100's of years ago.. now funny thing happens when you start to reach the speed of light, time slows down or affects you in a slower a much slower manner..
if you left the earth, and traveled at light speed, and then came back to the earth after just 10 months, about 20 years on Earth would have passed by.. you would be out of time, and not have aged but for a little bit..
I think the actual equation is: a little over 8 years Earth time, and about 4 1/3 months for you. ...at the speed of light
Now, here is where it gets interesting..
dark matter-dark energy: Dark matter or Dark Energy exists, and is very rare.. scientists have seen particles of this stuff emerge from atom colliders, they are maybe 1 particle in a billion, however this substance has a unique and a magical effect.. it is anti-gravity! if you held an apple which was made of the stuff and then let go, it would float up, and not drop to the earth.. this stuff is sooo magical that it could hold open a black whole, or even open a particle sized wormhole large enough to pass a spaceship through..
Imagine a form of energy which could be used to propel a ship to fly away from a black hole easily... Or better yet, capture a black hole and condense it small enough to be used as a power source??
What is striking about this, is that this ain't no science fiction I am talking about here, but science fact and theory from the world's leading physicists! Brilliant!
Another program which sites the use of this Magical Dark Matter-Dark Energy is the science program of Doctor Michio Kaku's how to avoid being crushed by a black hole in his series also found on the science channel called, "Sci-Fi Science" where Dark Matter is also the subject of how to counter the gravitational effects of a black hole.
again, Dark Matter, and Dark energy are real..It's anti-gravitational properties are also documented..check the net, and the web to see for yourself..
Now, Time Travel:
What I learned about time travel goes back to the premise established by light speed.. the light we are seeing in the sky is from thousands, and millions of years ago..even our strongest telescopes have seen the edge of the Universe which dates back billions of years.. If the universe were spinning, we could theoretically take a space ship, using dark matter open a worm hole, and use that worm hole to fly around the universe in a spiral, and end up at the light stream before we see it today.. thus traversing time..
confused?? yeah, I was too.. think of it like this..
your space ship is on the other side of the universe, you see a star, which you know is the Earth.. the light coming from that star is from 3 million BC, and you want to get to the 1500's AD. what do you do?? Well IF THE UNIVERSE WERE SPINNING you could open a wormhole and fly through it to where the light stream began, in 3 Million BC, but since your worm hole is like a big loop, you could come out at a point in space where the light stream from the Earth is at 1500's AD, thus you have arrived back in time..
Here is where this travel is wrong..
Our Universe, does not spin! it is expanding, and growing bit it does not spin at all..
SO how could you then traverse time and use the same techniques?? Easy, the time lords figured it out! and the Doctor who program was right!! though they call it by different names, and rightly so..
The Time Votrex: Essentially the time vortex is a massive, Massive Worm hole, which the time lords use to traverse the universe and time itself.. You have to be saying to yourself, the size of that wormhole must have taken thousands of years to create?? Not really, you see if you were to spend about an hour in a wormhole starting at the earth and ending up on the opposite side of our Universe, it would take you billions of light years to reach that destination..This is because you have taken a short cut, it would be almost like folding space, which is what they supposedly do in the movie Dune.. teleport from one end to the other end of the universe instantly.. but the time lords travel differently..
instead, since the universe does not spin, they had to create their own Worm hole which spirals the length of the universe and then loops to every corner of time and space.. this could be easily done if you were able to stretch a wormhole open, and send a drone ship on a mission to expand the wormhole throughout the universe.. this worm hole would then need to be flooded with Dark matter, or Dark energy to remain open and a viable time corridor, or highway.. (since dark matter and Dark energy are rare, the size of the worm hole was probably such that it would require their time ships be small, thus the Tardis would have to be a massive ship in another dimension and the outside no bigger then a police box, which again makes sense..the show creators may not have known this, but it is really genius!!)
the reason you would call it a time vortex, is because it would look like a vortex or a spiral tube which starts high and loops downwards to a center, and then back up again to the point of origin, which I assume is on Gallifrey.. the Eye of harmony or the singular gravitational pull from their planet is enough to hold the corridor firmly in their planet's control.. thus giving them the unfettered access to that specific wormhole..
It could be conceivable that if other alternate realities exist that this worm hole could allow passage should a freak tear open to that realm..
Travel through the time Vortex: so what then happens is that the Tardis enters the vortex, and plots a course through the spiraling worm hole, and exits this wormhole where the light stream from that particular destination is in the time-space they wanted to be.. The more you spiral towards the object through the wormhole, the more time passes in real space-time..
the further you spiral away from the object in the wormhole the more time moves forward in space time.. thus you have time and space travel on a scale worthy of the time lords..
The Tardis is a pocket of space, which is deformed into a bubble, which is then ALMOSTcut off from normal space time and becomes it's own dimension.. the doorway through to this Dimensional Capsule of time is then moved in and out of the time vortex..by dematerializing into the Wormhole/time vortex..propulsion through space, and the Vortex is done by the massive tardis engines which bend space around the ship.. kinda like warp speed does to the enterprise in Star Trek....
thus you have Time Travel!
Please go ahead and watch those series I sited, and also do your own research online, or in Libraries.. but I assure you, this is the most definitive and real science based assessment I have done on the subject of Time-space travel..
