How stuffed is your computer?

Yeah it is amazing how dusty they can get.

I always dust my keyboard because it can get quite dirty in between the keys.

Opening up my case reveals this:

I keep it clean, dust it once a week (it's actually about time for a dusting).
As for the internal components, I have a 500 GB HDD, ATi HD4600 GFX card, 3 GB RAM, a 52x SuperMultiDrive Lightscribe DVD Burner, a media card reader, the PSU and the Motherboard, and that's about it.

You know the design, the gizmo was used all over the place -even upside-down (and wall-mounted) in the engine room :rommie:

I'm afraid I don't recognise it. :( In the avatar it looks desktop sized. But since you intend to make this out of a cupboard, I'm guessing it is considerably bigger than it looks here. It is floor standing isn't it? :)

As for being water cooled: Some discreet vents on the reverse or underside of the case may be enough for air cooling. As long as the hot and cold airs are channeled/piped through the case effectively, it shouldn't really matter where the inlets and outlets are.

Remember the ep where Kirk is court marchalled - they put these 'wafer'-sized things they call 'tapes' into a machine in front of the podium where the judges sit?
I want that thing sitting on top of the 5 x 2 x 2 feet cupboard of mine

Then some plastic tubes from the cupboard to a radiator mounted on a brick wall (or an old car radiator mounted on the cupboard itself), for 'fluid dynamic cooling' (is that the word?)

I'll have to haul it out of it's cubby hole to see but I can say for sure there are two dvd drives, two harddrives, a lot of fans, pci-e card, usb card x2 and I'm planning to stick a TV-In card in there at some point as well as another harddive and possibly another fan.

My computer itself is old(its 2 years old now). I mean, of course I upgraded the video card - which in turn I had to upgrade the power pack in order to be able to hold that upgrade. Then I had to give it more fans to keep the big power pack cooler...then I upgraded the ram to the max a windows XP could hold...then...well you get the picture. Anyway, its old and outdated but I don't have the cash to buy a new one right now. When I have the cash to buy a new one and upgrade it I'll be happy to share the info.

Here's mine. (It's in a shelf so I can't really get a straight shot of it.)

It's getting close to needing a dusting, but it's ok.

And yes, the little lights mean I did this without shutting off the computer. Bad me. :shifty:

I love the G5 and Mac Pro engineering... It's a pure joy to open those boxes...

I know why you can’t see my keyboard! The forum site has its own has private members non-topic forum. I’m, still logged onto the site 24/7 as 24/7 on this site and the link works fine only the image is bit large!

I could scale image down and re-post as image!

This is the result of keyboard that hasn’t been cleaned in 6 months! Yeah so turn your keyboard upside down tap it shake it about and use a thin price of plastic and run up and down in-between the keys.

Hair body dirt food you name it will all come pouring out!

Makes you wonder how clean they are at cyber cafés doesn’t it!

Actually its frizzled Tribble that I vaporized with a hand phaser!:rommie:

I had that in my previous machine and missed it so much when the computer died that I simply had to have something like that again -found it in the form of a USB-dongle this time though :bolian:

I may try one of those. I have an older model tv card I can use from when I had my TV nearer to my computer. Things got changed around since then.
