How stuffed is your computer?

-and how dirty is it? :rommie:

I posted this image in the funny images thread (aka thread bomb thread)

And then noticed how empty that cabinet looked

The insides of my pooter is filled with stuff; I only have the one optical disc drive, but the video card takes up more space than that and then there's the three hard disk drives (sure, two of them are front mounted (gotta love the hotplugging SATA standard!) but they still take up a lot of space -and I don't even have room left for a 'floppy drive' (if I wanted one)...

How 'stuffed' is your computer cabinet? (I'm not talking about netbooks, laptops or macs, obviously, as those tend to be packed full anyway), how many (physical) HDDs do you have internally?

A picture would be nice... I'll try and see if I can provide one later, but it's going to be tough work as my machine is put in a rather inconvenient position for that sort of thing :(

I just have my MacBook, and it has whatever it has in it. I'm pretty retarded when it comes to computer hardware, so I've never altered or added anything to the inside of my computers. I take them as they are, and they stay that way.

My main PC has a slightly bigger than average case, meaning the insides are very accessible, but is quite bare to look at. I have only one optical drive, one hard disk drive, and one floppy drive. One sound card and one video card, which are both moderately small. A couple of other cards I've removed recently as they were never used. There's negligible dust in there, because I do give it a vacuuming a couple of times a year. :)

My previous computer was almost the opposite. The case was a pain to open, and the insides were chocablock with cables. It accumulated quite a lot of dust too as I remember.

Eww, seems like I need to call in the maid!

Although the thing actually looks quite roomy -a lot better than the old machine! -but then, that fit into my little cupboard -this one doesn't :(

Both of my computers have quite a lot of space inside for extra drives, but I've never really bothered to get any. The only reasons why I had to open them up was because the CD-Drive went wonky in one and had to be replaced--and a CD exploded in the other, forcing me to clean out all the pieces...

Well lets open up Auld Bessie's panel and have a look at the damage...

Hmmm, not to bad actually, i had assumed it would be caked in dust.

My laptop needed a quick blow-dusting a few weeks ago when it started to overheat, all due to dust slowly clogging up the heat-sink at the back. It's now working better than ever. I've never tried to open it, apart from removing the battery.

My last desktop was quite spacious inside, and had lots of fans and moving parts to malfunction. It too got dusty.

Software-wise, my primary hard disk is now at 92% capacity, the secondary one at 84%. The less said about the start-up programs, the better.

Once I switched exclusively to laptops back in 97 my days of opening the computer ended. Now I just run what I've got.

... and a CD exploded in the other, forcing me to clean out all the pieces...
:wtf: How does a CD explode?

I'm not sure, but I've had it happen too!

It sounds like a gunshot and you get pieces of CD embedded in weird places in your computer.

It's similar to how a tornado can drive a piece of straw through a tree. Of course, this was in old home-made PC back in the 90's...god only knows what material it was made out of. Probably something cheap.

Here's mine. (It's in a shelf so I can't really get a straight shot of it.)

It's getting close to needing a dusting, but it's ok.

And yes, the little lights mean I did this without shutting off the computer. Bad me. :shifty:
