How should the Enterprise debut in the Film?

General_Custer

How should we see her when she makes her first appearance in the movie? Should it be shot of her on patrol like in the Next Generation films or her sitting in space dock? What about a opening shot of her under Pike in a heated battle or a segment where we see a shot of open space and we hear Captain Pike making his log entry and we then hear him order the ship to drop out of warp and she magically appears right in front of our eyes in all her glory with the original score blazing. What would you like to see?

In the movie I have in my head there is some sort of an emergency on a ship/space-station/whatever. And just when everything seems lost, the Enterprise fly in, guns blazing, and saves the day.

I'd like the first time young Kirk sees the Enterprise to mirror the TMP DE scene wherein he looks with longing at the refit Enterprise as he approaches.

That would be a nice mirror and connection to the first Trek movie. This is, in a way, a new "first" Trek movie, assuming it's successful.

I'm glad to see that someone else shares that idea, I'd like that too, along with Jerry Goldsmith's Enterprise theme playing. It's too much to hope for, probably, but we can wish.

Considering the rumor is a teaser will show the Enterprise being built, this is a possibility.

I'd like to see him looking at it longingly while on the way to his assignment as a Lt. aboard another starship.
Don't think that'll happen though, since another rumor has Kirk appearing for the first time some time into the movie. By then, Pike's Enterprise may be well into the adventure.

So --
Replicate Kirk's STMP scene with Pike. His love for the ship had to be as strong. Have a scene where Pike is being taken to the ship as it nears being made ready. Show Pike as agog over the ship as Kirk was in STMP. A bit of a valentine for fans who would "get it." Just don't have the scene linger on quite as long as the STMP one did.

With that stirring, strings rendition of the TMP theme used when the Enterprise is first introduced in that film. :)

Similar to Superman's suggestion, I'm just more concerned about the musical cue. Maybe Giacchino will come up with something new and almost as good, but that music would really do it for me.

I'd like to see the movie start with action as all TOS did but seeing a nostalgic moment like a young Kirk seeing a Star ship streak across the sky on his Iowan farm or him in Starflett as a walking stack of books would be nice.

Whatever happens, it'd better not have that shot from The Cage, where it zooms into the bridge.

Or what?

With modern FX, that shot could be very compelling. Hell, even with the limited means of the times, it was an interesting way to communicate to the viewers where the bridge was on the Enterprise.

It would be a real tease to open with an interior shot ON the Enterprise with some activity going on not show the ship at first, go through a scene or two. Then do a slow pull back through a window until the ship is revealed.

I think it would be cool to see the Excelsior Prime introduced in this movie as a ramshackle and useless ship clearly designed by idiots - sort of establishing the lineage of the later vessel we see in "Star Trek III."

Maybe. ;)

And in that movie... Kirk isn't on the Enterprise, he's fighting the good fight against all odds in the "bad situation"...

That's also the movie I've had in my head for a long while.

just as the romulan war's final and largest battle is about to be lost, dropping out of 1970's acid trip warp, the enterprise appears manned by Mr. T and launches K.I.T.T. out of it's shuttlepod and fires a black hole creating gun

What about a shot of the Enterprise flying away from us from our point of view? Cut to space, we see the saucer, the nacell, and finally the main hill pass us by. Then a full shot in front as the ship makes another pass. In the background, a fully updated version of the Alexander Courage theme is playing. Like someone else said though, no matter what happens, the whole audience is either going to be silenced in awe, or cheering for a ship that hasn't been on the silver screen in over 20 years.

I still think they should blow it up.

The very first scene of the movie. It's perfect assuming the movie is supposedly "alternate time-line."

Re: How should the Enterprise debut in the Film?

The Enterprise should debut as a giant mecha battling some huge alien being that's attacking a Federation colony on some distant planet. It dispatches the beast with a roundhouse kick from its warp nacelles, transforms into starship mode, and then flies back up into space as the grateful colonists smile and wave.

:D
