I would put this forum as a fairly good representation, as all sections of fandom visit and post here. I certainly would put it over the "majority" that people like Devin Faraci have as "Star Trek fans" for one.
As for your time limitations, we have a sense of superiority, do we?
I'm not crazy about Klingons as the enemy again. It seems like that's been done enough. I'd rather see something new and different and interesting. I just hope there aren't any little pop-eyed scenery chewing Klingons like Gowron. The best Trek has a certain amount of humor, of course, but it mostly comes down to the characters and how they interact. The previews look like they are playing it pretty straight with the Klingons being fearsome and not cartoony. Still, not excited by what I've seen so far.

I'd say that I'm looking forward to the show, but at this point my expectations are somewhat limited. Nothing about it so far suggests a series on the creative level of the leading cable and streaming dramas of the last decade.
The really brilliant shows are creator-driven, and Discovery is a creation-by-committee, closely monitored by the corporate folks who own the property and write the checks. It's looking more and more like merely a lavishly budgeted, visually not-very-inspired Star Trek series.

It definitely feels like an extension of the Berman years to a degree. There are some things I'm liking about it, some things I don't. Still, it's "new" Star Trek. So I am staying positive until they give me a reason not too.
Though I think centering on the Klingons and having Burnham's arc roughly being the same as Worf's is a bit concerning.

I'm quite excited about the new show. I've been a fan since the days of TAS, and I'm quite pleased they are taking things in a new direction and not just giving us more Beige Trek.
I'm optimistic that the show will be of good quality. On the down side, if it's not, hey, if I could find something to like about Voyager, I'm sure I will be able to find something I like about Discovery.

The more and more I hear and see from all the previews and interviews the more troubled I am. They seem to be spending an inordinate amount of energy trying to show everyone just how Star Trekish they are. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't need another Star Trek TV show desperately trying to BE Star Trek instead of just a good TV show. The Star Trek universe should be a platform to tell good scifi stories, not pound us over the head with canon.
I guess we'll find out soon enough anyway.
