Gee - this sounds like fandom back in 1987...just saying.![]()
So odd to see proclamations of failure considering how dreadfully terrible the first season of TNG was. Discovery looks light years better at the outset by almost any objective measure.

It amuses me that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was criticized for not changing at all and Star Trek: Discovery is excoriated for changing too much. It's like production teams can't win or something.I appreciate all iterations of Trek, but when you watch them today, many suffer from a lot of the problems Discovery's critics have with this new show. Whether it's obvious liberal/progressive messaging (the term "SJW" didn't exist then, but I'm sure it would have been thrown around when Tasha was introduced as the security chief, or when Sisko and Janeway were cast), or changes to alien designs (Klingons, Romulans, pretty much every classic alien race has been redesigned over the years), major retcons (Sybok) and changes to continuity (Borg/Ferengi on ENT)...
Again, we've been through this time and time again, so it blows my mind that these folks are so critical of change, pessimistic of it's chances, and at worst, downright bigoted when it comes to diversity.
It's not a show about Spock's human sister, it's a show about the first officer of first the USS Shenzou and then USS Discovery, who was taken in by Sarek and Amanda after her parents were killed. Hell, we don't even know if they officially adopted her. It's a show about Spock's human sister. That's fantastic, assuming this is a comedy.
Sure the show has had issues, but pretty much every big production these days seems to run into a few issues, so it's really not enough to concern me. Most of those issues also seemed to be early in the production when they were first setting things up, and I don't remember hearing about any major issues once things got going.
No not unheard of, yes sometimes it means there are serious problems within the production.Fans act as if these problems are unheard of and as if they spell doom for the show.
It's almost like things will make more sense in context. WeirdIt amazes how a few people dislike something, and suddenly it's an overwhelmingly negative response. The majority of the reactions I've seen on other sci-fi/nerd sites, like Io9, Tor.com, and CBR have been very positive. Sure there are quite a few negative people on here, but I think this poll shows that even here they aren't the majority.

As for how I feel, I'm very positive right now, I've loved everything I've seen in the trailers and pictures, and everything I've read in interviews has sounded like exactly what I want a modern Trek show to be.

Just from losing Bryan Fuller, Discovery will definately be different. Whether that difference mean "worse" remains to be seen.
Do remember that this forum isn't an accurate representation of the public. As for "overwhelmingly negative response" I think this threads poll shows that it's clearly the "vocal minority" -- or at best, the vocal half-- of the fandom, that is giving that impression. This contingent wants Star Trek a certain way, and will cry as loud as they can when things aren't exactly as they want it.
Well that's just a lie, Io9 has been running near non-stop doom articles. It amazes how a few people dislike something, and suddenly it's an overwhelmingly negative response. Why does this make you laugh?

If, out of context, you heard about a Star Trek "story idea" about Spock's secret human sister named "Michael" and her adventures fighting Klingon mummies, what would your first reaction be?
Personally, that sounds like hilariously bad fan-fic nonsense or parody. I never said such a premise couldn't work...but come on. Granted, I'm cherry-picking those elements for comedic effect, but on the other hand - they could've done anything and THIS was their 1st choice. This is the sort of thing we would rip someone apart for suggesting over in the Future of Trek forum.
Outside of the pajama uniforms, in my opinion TMP is superior in every way to Discovery based off of what we've seen, and its the TOS movie I like the least (even less then TFF).
I listen to this video from Midnight's Edge today. There is a rumor, which he is on emphatic on, that CBS knows this show is in trouble. The initial test screenings had people saying this was a generic sci-fi show with Star Trek slapped on it. It is rumored that the show might not last more than one season, and the project Nick Meyers is working on might be a replacement for it. This video explains why Discovery looks different from the prime timeline - it has to do with licensing rights.
My expectations of Discovery have plummeted so low, that if they were a stone they would be found at the bottom of the Challenger Trench (the deepest point in Earth's oceans).
Guys, I'm sorry, but you are naive if you think this show is going to last past the first season. It has "disaster" written ALL over it. There have been so many red flags from the development of the show, and the lukewarm fan reception doesn't bode well for it.
No, it's called being mistaken. But I just skimmed through their last few Discovery articles, and I didn't see any predictions of doom, they were a bit more critical than I had thought, but just because someone isn't loving something doesn't mean they're predicting doom.Do remember that this forum isn't an accurate representation of the public.

You've seen two minutes. Might want to dial down the uninformed opinions a bit.![]()
I've seen and read more then enough to form my own opinion (although one image of the aliens they're calling "klingons" for some reason would have done that all by itself). You don't have to share it, but since its my opinion you can't really say whether I've seen enough or not, only I can make that decision.
