Frankly - all of these polls need to be in the General Trek area instead. You will NOT get a proper cross-section of the fan base by putting these in a dedicated sub-forum.

I rarely even look at this section, and most fans are probably not looking very often either.

and I rarely visit the general trek area.
You will probably find different people in each of the sub forums.

I'm watching the second season of TOS at the moment, it's been about two years since I watched it, and Im amazed how entertaining this show is, not for any nostalgic reason, because I was born decades after it came out, but just because it's such a high quality show. Star Trek is great at being itself, the only reason they're making this mess is laziness and disregard for the show's legacy.
How dare CBS try to profit off of there intellectual property? That completely disregards Gene's vision...wait...:vulcan:

Sorry, nothing is "ruined" by DSC. It's simply a matter of preferences. And, as indicated, apparently TOS, TNG and DS9 still exist and are still entertaining.
Because if the trailer is "shitty," there is a pretty decent chance the show will be "shitty" as well.
Trailers are not assembled by the production team, so no.

I guess trailers are an indication of nothing then. And, I guess those awful-looking Klingons are nothing worth mentioning either.
Other than indicating that a new Star Trek show is coming out, yes trailers are worthless. See "Beyond'" and its trailer for evidence.

As for the Klingons, I am in the "wait and see" camp as I will be curious to hear their backstory. Obviously, YMMV as to aesthetic value of the Klingons, but that is not indicative of the story and the characters of this new show.

No worse than TMP, in my opinion.

Outside of the pajama uniforms, in my opinion TMP is superior in every way to Discovery based off of what we've seen, and its the TOS movie I like the least (even less then TFF).

Respectfully disagree. For me, I will judge it based upon the characters and the story and not the trailers and stills.

If I saw TMP stills and trailers after watching TOS, I would be annoyed by the Klingons as well. More annoyed by where they took them in TSFS.

The larger point is the simple fact that Star Trek has done this before, and will do so again.

ETA: And no, I'm not expecting everyone to like it, but I see no reason to bash it when, to me, what makes Star Trek "Star Trek" is the characters and story, not the uniforms and the ships.

I have a bad feeling this series is doomed from the start, and won't last past the first season. Even if the show itself is good, I think having it only being on CBS All Access for North America is going to kill the show. And with the overwhelming negative fan response so far, things just seem gloomy.

I hope it succeeds, though.

This is literally a thread on a Star Trek fansite with a poll on top of it where over 70% of fans voted positive.

70% approval rate from Trekkies is basically unheard of for a new production :p

The poll I started, the one where you can view the results if you want, about 3/4 of the voters voted some form of being positive. Now, ofcourse, that's only on this forum. But the fandom on this forum is a representation of the fandom as a whole. And it would seem the people here are mostly positive.

The problem with any kind of fandom (fan being short for fanatic) is that some people tend to talk more, and loud. Very LOUD. So we hear those more. They're also quite repetative, posting the same thing over and over and over and over. After a while, you read those negative comments a lot more, since the same guy/girl will post them all the time, everywhere. Hence, the idea fandom is responding negatively.

The people who are mostly positive, tend to say this once or twice, then mostly stay out of the shouting match that started where we are being convinced we NEED to hate this show because of whatever reason (Uniforms? Really? I'm supposed to hate a whole show, because of the collar on a uniform?) and move on. They're simply content to just wait for the show, enjoy it if they like, and forgot about it if they don't.

Conclusion; fan response isn't negative, people only focus on the negative responses more, since those are more outspoken. The statistics on top of this thread (you can view results without voting) basicly prove that.

I'm very positive, so far I like everything I've seen, the cast is great and CBS seems to have gone all out.
I can't wait for the premiere and look forward to talking about each week's episode.

I listen to this video from Midnight's Edge today. There is a rumor, which he is on emphatic on, that CBS knows this show is in trouble. The initial test screenings had people saying this was a generic sci-fi show with Star Trek slapped on it. It is rumored that the show might not last more than one season, and the project Nick Meyers is working on might be a replacement for it. This video explains why Discovery looks different from the prime timeline - it has to do with licensing rights.

My expectations of Discovery have plummeted so low, that if they were a stone they would be found at the bottom of the Challenger Trench (the deepest point in Earth's oceans).

The "source" is Doug Fitz.

Or rather, his imagination.
