1. It's a Bad Robot production run by Alexander Kutzman

Strike one. Not made by Bad Robot. I have no idea who "Kutzman" is?

2. The Prime time line is just marketing. It's actually based on the license from Paramount and it's actually a reboot.

Strike two. CBS actually owns all of Star Trek.

3. The whole distopian thing isn't Star Trek.

Strike three. Dystopian? Deep Space Nine covered similar territory.

One... two... three strikes, you're out! At the old, ball game.

Neutral/Meh?

Loved the Teaser trailer but then Fuller dropped out/was fired

3. The whole distopian thing isn't Star Trek.
4. It's on CBS all access not on Netflix or CW. Feels like they think we fans will buy all access to get to Star Trek (I guess they never heard of torrenting).
5. Rumors of troubled production

That was a great video. I would love to see what Nicholas Meyer has up his sleeve. The possibility that he might be working on something makes me optimistic.

Sorry it's Kurtzman and it's production company, Secret Hideout.

CBS owns the TV rights and technically the Prime universe. Paramount owns the movie rights and the Kelvin timeline

DS9 was about war but it wasn't dystopian. Anyways everybody said this series is a mess so I'll download the first episode and see how it is.

This iteration of Star Trek is going to have a different take than the others in the Star Trek canon. It’s going to be bigger, rawer and grittier… and the story’s going to build on itself. It’s going to be a tremendous journey.

ugh... literally every single new thing coming out about STD is making me want to hate this show. Now the lead actor is confirming that it's going to be shitty/gritty with a dragged on story. We already knew this, but it's like she's proud of it. There's also a quote where she says it's similar in spirit to that zombie show she was on. I keep hoping that they will release something, anything positive, but there's literally nothing. I may not subscribe to CBS Access out of principle if the pilot is as bad as everything suggests it will be.

Go take a look at your Abrams DVD's, and you'll see the CBS logo printed on them. They own all the trademarks associated with Star Trek.

Might I suggest the Orville. I keep hearing that it's good.

The trademark issues is complicated because of the Viacom split but basically CBS own the TV rights. That's probably why CBS logo is there because it's based on the TV show.

CBS owns the trademarks. Paramount can't call it "Star Trek" or do anything with any trademarked IP without agreement from CBS.

Yup, says right on the box, Star Trek and related marks and logos are trademarks of CBS Studios Inc. All Rights Reserved. CBS owns it all, lock, stock, and barrel.

This same show could be set in the 25th century (with few changes) and you probably wouldn't view it much differently. The timeframe in itself has little bearing on marketability.
It clearly does to CBS, based upon merchandising and what they keep pushing out for product.

This, exactly this.
CBS owns all of Star Trek, Paramount just has permission to use it.

The CBS Consumer Products website lists all the KT movies as their properties.

It seems odd to me that a man in his 70's would be hired to do "Starfleet Academy". Is the CW show actually confirmed, or is this more fan rumors like Star Trek Beyond isn't being made?
