More stems from people who admire that archetype to the point of selfish, or jerkish behavior.

But, to your point, I don't, generally have a desire to break rules, but I also don't find the idea of breaking rules very freeing either.

To each their own. I certainly won't watch DSC because of Mudd. Personal choice not impacted by entertainment choices.

You don't think there's going to be an episode about Mudd's hundred thousand Charlotte McKinney fembots?

I blame Han Solo.
I blame Douglas Fairbanks. Both of them.

I voted Very Positive, and that stays with last night's conversation with my parents. They were watching on Sept. 8, 1966, and when I like something Star Trek and they like it, then I know that I'm on the right path with my thinking, lol!

They were the ones who took me to see TMP when I was 7 years old, and it opened my mind.

Last night when I was talking to them, I didn't really bring much of DSC up, but have shown them the trailers since the CBS announcement one last year. They loved those, but I never really brought it up in conversations.

While talking to them last night, they were watching something on CBS. An ad for DSC came on, and my dad said, "Hey! Here's another ad for the new Star Trek, Discovery! Have you seen the new ads? Yeah! This looks really good!" And I could hear my mom in the background agreeing. My dad is going to be 83 on Sept. 9, a grizzled Korean War vet and my mom is an old-school housewife at 81. If they both love what they're seeing, then I'm really psyched!

Oh and avoid Youtube comments. People bitching SJW at the trailers because of a perceived "diverse cast" and "woman captain" here we go again......

I'm more hesitant since the focus on war and all that. I haven't been following it closely, by design, but that's the vibe I'm getting. I was thinking I want more Star Trek and less Wing Commander and then I realized the nu Klingons remind me of the Kilrathi from the WC movie. It might not be bad, and I'll try to check it out on its terms but it's not what I had hoped for from the onset at least.

I'm kinda hoping the War is a smokescreen that will be at the forefront in the first couple of episodes. I hope all 15 episodes won't focus on it, and I do have reason to believe it won't based on the trailers and Burnham having to find her place. As we get closer to the premiere, I'm finding myself slightly more excited. Trek is back on TV and that's a good thing.

I'd say it goes back even father than that, there are characters going all the way back the ancient mythologies who could probably be described as lovable rogues today.
