How old were you....

When you learned the truth about Santa Claus? And how did you learn the truth?

I was 7 or 8 when I found out. While playing hide-and-seek, I hid in a closet and knocked over the Christmas presents my parents stashed there, they were all from "Santa Claus."

And before anyone else says it:

What do you mean "the truth about Santa Claus?"

I learned the truth many years ago that not only is Santa Claus real, but that I am Santa Claus. I have no toy making magic, I have no flying reindeer, but I give to those in need, I am a comfort to the young and the innocent, a shared memory to the old and wizened, a stepping stone to a greater imagination, and I am a part of what makes such belief a beautiful thing. I am Santa Claus, and I still live.

I honestly have no memory of learning the truth about Santa Claus, but I do remember breaking the news to my younger brother and completely destroying him in the process. I think he was about 5 or 6.

I think I was about 5 or 6, and I had just discovered a toy "Santa" was supposed to get me, in a closet. I didn't tell anybody because I figured I shouldn't mention sneaking into the closet, but I decided to find out the truth once and for all.

When we put out the milk and cookies, I put out a signature form for Santa to sign, so I could check his handwriting. Of course, you can imagine how it came back. Since I was old enough to try a thing like that, my dad knew I was old enough for him not to disguise his handwriting (even though it still said "Santa").

I was not angry or disillusioned--actually, I felt very clever and proud of myself for testing my theory and proving it conclusively. :D

The same group of conspiracists which faked the moon landing has also been trying to convince us for years that Santa Claus is fiction. Don't let them succeed in decieving you. Stay strong.

same for me just ripped thru the little brat when I let him know Santa was never going to give us presents LOL// me and my brother are now friends again after all these years //

I'm not ever sure I really believed in Santa Claus. My parents certainly told me the story, and I visited a handful of mall Santa Clauses over the years... but I think some part of me always just thought it was my parents who ultimately put all the stuff under the tree. I have no recollection of ever finding out the Santa Claus story was just that, either.

No Santa? Then who organizes the elves? Answer that, skeptics! You can't, can you?

Around 8. I noticed that some signatures matched Mom's handwriting and the others matched Dad's.

Oh, and my younger brother claims I told him. According to him, he broke down in tears and that our parents was very furious, with "lot of yelling".

But none of us remember it.

I never believed in Santa Claus because it was a very confusing idea : in French, Santa Claus = Père Noël (Father Noël) and my father's name was Noël. That's too much to understand for a small kid :p

When I was 7 or 8 I overheard a child in my class mocking another child with, "You still believe in Santa?!" I somewhat disappointed, but I wasn't devastated because on some level I'd figured it out long ago and was just still playing the game. My response was more on the lines of, "Yeah, that makes sense. Bummer."

Oh, that reminds me. One of my younger brother's friends still believed until he was 13. One day that guy was waiting for the school bus with a bunch of buds including my brother when he talked about how concerned he was about Santa knowing something he had just done..... He got the blank but shocked looks.

About 9-10 we kinda figured it out, maybe a little earlier that you'd have to be traveling at light speed or beyond to do what "Santa does"
No wonder the old guy is tired.

This is exactly me. I have no memory of really believe in Santo and, hence, no memory of the moment when I learned the truth. I don't think I ever believed. They certainly did the full Santa show though, malls, presents, etc.
