How Old Was Janeway Supposed to Be?

Chakotay's gravestone in 'Endgame' put his year of birth as 2329, making him 42 at the beginning of the series, same age as Robert Beltran.

The Okudagram showing Janeway's year of birth as 2332 makes her 39 at the start of the series and 46 at the end, pretty much the same age as Kate.

*shrug* Works for me! :)

what okudagram was that? The one in "Killing Game" said that she was born in 2344, which is obviously wrong since that would make her 27 during "Caretaker". In "Future's End" she said she hadn't played tennis since high school 19 years earlier, which would make Kathyrn about 38ish.

Pick an age, any age. Sheesh.

Regarding Janeway and childbirth perhaps she was distressed not because she biologically couldn't have a child, but because there were slim pickings of male partners on the ship and by the time she got to earth she'd be over 100!

About how old is O'Brian?

Janeway's gotta be older than 40.
In "Prey" she mentions being fresh out of the Academy and one of her first assignments was fighting the Cardassians. I assumed she was referring to the time of Setlik 3, around the same time O'Brian was a young officer too. She also mentions in the series being introduced to Tuvok because he "dressed her down upon my first day on command".

Anybody know how long she's known Tuvok for?

Well that's more in line with what they put him at in the beginning of the series vs. the Chronology.

At which point? Even if she was 35 by the time of "Prey" she would have been 39. That's pretty close.

Personally the whole "no tennis since high school nineteen years ago" putting her at 37 makes sense to me. That would have made her 41 during "Prey" - over 40.

What about Mark?

Was he pre-maturely greying too?

Old enough to where she couldn't have children anymore.

I assumed that was another reason she was broken up by the combo of loosing Mark & the death of Seven in by time we get "Endgame". I doubt she'd remain grieving all those years gone by if she could of married and had a family of her own.

Given they've got Crusher pregnant again in TrekLit, apparently there's been a major change in fertility somewhere down the line...

Women can have babies by aliens. The sky's the limit, really.

I wonder how old Vice Admiral Janeway was... in Nemesis. 48? You think she might have been promoted from Captain directly to Vice Admiral upon returning to the Alpha quadrant, for exemplary performance under practically impossible odds? :)

Presumably, after the Dominion War, there were all of about three people still alive who were captains before the war. Unfortunately, Sisko became God and Picard was an ex-Borg security risk. So Janeway it was.

I'd always assumed they'd picked him when they were still expecting Genevieve Bujold (elegant but grey and clearly a lot older than Mulgrew - a quick google says 13 years) to play Janeway, he looks more that sort of age?

What about Mark? I have and uncle and a cousin who started going gray at eighteen. You can't make assumptions on age based on gray hair.
Why not? It creates conversation and debate in the forum, which is the whole purpose. Isn't it? Besides, aren't we all assuming Janeway's age based on loose facts? So what's the difference assuming ones age based on physical attibutes of ones appearance?

The point is, I think all these facts from the show in combination paints a picture of about how old Janeway might be.

I dunno I always thought Command wanted her out of the way. So they put her behind a desk.

I guess 48 is right, assuming she 40 when she started with Voyager. It just seems pretty young for a Vice Admiral... Stupid ST Nemesis for messing things up!

By season 5, she isn't even considering a family anymore.

Based on what?

According to the book "Star Trek Chronology", Chakotay was born in 2335 which means that he was 35-36 years old at the time for the events in Caretaker. My guess is that Janeway was about the same age in 2371.

Funny how Chakotay seemed to get younger during the show. In the first season he was supposed to be in his forties. Then the Chronology came out at the end of the series and he lost ten years. Wouldn't we all love to be able to do that? ;)

According to Memory Alpha, Janeway was born on May 20 in Bloomington, Indiana, on Earth. (VOY: "Year of Hell", "Imperfection")

According to an okudagram shown in "The Killing Game", she was born in 2344, however, this would mean she was only 27 in 2371 when she took command of the USS Voyager. For comparison, Mulgrew was 39 when she took the role. Not having played tennis for 19 years since high school in 2373, Janeway was probably around the age of 35 when Voyager's mission began, placing her actual year of birth closer to 2336.

An Okudagram biography on the video game Starship Creator Warp II states her birthdate as 2332.

Kate Mulgrew stated in an interview on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn (18 May 2001) that Admiral Janeway was 76 in "Endgame". It had taken her 23 years to return to Earth and they were celebrating the ten year anniversary at the beginning of the episode, making the year 2404, which puts her year of birth in 2328.

Well that clears that up! ;)

The Chronology I'm referring to was published in 1996. It only covers two seasons of Voyager.

As for Chakotay, my theory in this case is that he's actually from Draya, that planet from the episode "Innocence" where the people aged backwards.

What about Mark? I have and uncle and a cousin who started going gray at eighteen. You can't make assumptions on age based on gray hair.

When I read "Mosaic", I get an impression that Mark is about 2-3 years older than Janeway.

As for the gray hair, I have a relative who was totally gray when he was 30.

What is the average lifespan for humans in the TNG time period? We know McCoy is incredibly old, but is that the norm?

I'm guessing 110-120 is average, though I have nothing to back that up.

I watched an episode of TNG last night (can't remember the name) in season 7 where Lt Barclay was worried he had some sort of fatal illness, Dr Crusher replied he was fine and that he had "at least eighty more years left to live". Judging from his appearance at the time he seemed about 30-40 years old (but it's hard to tell) so I would agree that 110-120 is the average... in TNG time anyway.

I take it that is from Trek lit? Are they assuming that a bunch of Admirals died during the war too?
