I'll buy a ticket to the movie and the DVD if said movie is any good. Otherwise, nothing.

Tickets, DVD, any reasonably-priced toys I can get my hands on that aren't garbage, particularly the characters and a ship for them, maybe some replicas/higher-end props --and by 'higher-end' I mean better than what they'll sell at Target and KB Toys-- a t-shirt or two, and if they release some Happy Meal toys, that would kick ass, too. Or better yet, Burger King kids meal toys. (It's the toys and the chase that make it fun, but the food being tastier than the toys certainly helps.) I'm a sucker for collecting stuff once I'm interested, see, and I have next to no Trek memorabilia right now, so next year should be a fun time.

(Financially draining, but fun!)

Haven't seen any real merchandise to really decide if it's worth buying yet, just generic "playmates got the liscence back~!!!!11one1one" news.

I think there are a couple of items I'll get for sure:

- The Movie on DVD, or if I'm upgraded to the format, and they sell it, on Blu-Ray
- The Original Soundtrack CD

Beyond that, we'll see what my finances are, and if there is anything worthwhile being sold. If Rubies do a good job with the costumes, maybe for the 2009 Comic-Con.

I'm not much of a "collector" either, so probably just the DVD. All I collect are the movies and episodes, I have one Star Trek "mug" so-to-speak that my father gave me when I graduated high school.

The DVD, maybe some other stuff. We'll see.

The one thing I'm hoping they come up with is a functional tie-in cell phone that looks like TOS communicator. One that preferably pops open when a switch is depressed, like ENT's.

I think I need to run a contest in this forum and bring in some of the girls to help me select the cutest nerdboi in the Trek XI forum.

Not that that has anything whatever to do with your post or anything....

Just an idea I had 10 seconds ago. :p

Can this contest involve these girls you mention taking off their clothing?

Just a thought...

Per my usual collecting habits for movies I like and Star Trek, I'll probably get the following:

1-the DVD (best two-disc, bells and whistles edition available)

2-a model "toy" of the new Enterprise

3-action figures of the "new" Kirk, Spock, and McCoy

4-the soundtrack

5-novelization and comic adaptation

6-any GOOD original TOS products released to coincide with the film's release

Of course, I won't be getting any of this--nor seeing Trek XI--if Shatner isn't revealed to be in it at some point before it's released.

Can't wait to see new versions of everything. The tech (ships, phasers, etc.) are the best part of the whole experience, next to the actual films, of course.

Just the DVD for me. But please, Paramount, no double- or triple-dipping. If you're going to put out a big packed-to-the-gills DVD, do it the first time!

Honestly, I have a bit of trouble understanding this mindset. I'm a huge fan of Nimoy, not as big a fan of Shatner. If the roles were reversed and Shatner was going to be in this movie and Nimoy wasn't, I don't think I'd be quite as excited about the movie as I am now, but I'd definitely still be interested enough in checking it out because I enjoy Star Trek in general and TOS characters in particular. Well, regardless though I hope Shatner turns out to a super secret surprise cameo (despite his words in my signature) since I know it'd make some people like yourself happy. Best of all none of us would have to put up with this any of this BBK (Shatner) talk for the next movie. ;)

Hey Tralah,

My main gripe is that I don't buy Abrams's excuse that he couldn't "make Kirk's return" work.

If there's a will, there's a way, and there clearly wasn't a will. With two members of the TOS cast now deceased, and Shatner and Nimoy getting on in age, I think there should have been an effort to get these two guys in this movie together, one last time.

It would've been great if Spock was going after his old friend just like Kirk did in TSFS, even willing to die again himself in the process.

But the constant word from Abrams's camp has been "it's not worth it," or "we can't find a way to bring him back, or "it's not part of the story we want to tell."

That's their prerogative, of course, but I think it's a shame that they didn't want to tell a story bringing Kirk and Spock to the screen one final time.

And it's my prerogative to not go see this film.

I'm still hoping (against the odds put forth by many members of this BBS) that Shatner is indeed in the film.

We'll see...

Yep, we'll just have to see! I have a feeling we'll never know all the reasons why it didn't work out for Shatner to be in this movie. I don't hold it against Abrams if he feels that it could work in the context of the script, but I do agree with you that since it looks like time travel is going to play a role that anything could have been possible.

I'm going to get me a S.E. DVD (I seriously hope it'll have the same design as previous 10 movies), and I'm gonna buy the full set of Star Trek LEGOs once they are on the shelves. Yes, I really expect LEGOs to follow the XI. movie; it makes sense.

I'll be buying the DVD at the very least. I've also got my eye on the TOS phaser, communicator and medical tricorder. They should make nice additions to my desk at home.

The best commentaries are often the ones recorded with a bit of hindsight, not the ones rushed to the market. I have absolutely no problem with studios bringing out a quick version ASAP to satisfy that early demand, and then taking months to prepare a more complex DVD product, with lots of extras, for the completists.

Studios do this stuff to strict budgets. They don't know if there'll be "big packed-to-the-gills" versions of DVDs until they have a clear idea on how well the first version sold. Directors are often too busy on other projects (for other studios?) to do a directors' edition at the studio's whim.

If you're so scared that they'll force you to "double dip" on this, just refrain from buying the thing for a few years. Rent it instead. Multiple times. If there's no second version, the first one will now be of a low enough price that the rentals have paid for themselves.

None...Not having any trek for the last few years has cured that Must have trek stuff problem that i suffered when Trek was still on the TV..
