How much homage?

If all you want is superficially recognisable features, it may as well be a reboot.

As far as I'm concerned, it ought to make use of Trek's history. Given that it is apparently kicked off by a mentioned but little-explored event from TOS, that seems to be exactly how they're approaching it.

I hope they stop paying homage to the Nazis. Watching Voyager's "The Killing Game" and asking "Why? Why? Oh God why must we revisit the Nazis?" And they did it in "Enterprise." What's the fascination? The uniforms? Did they do it TNG and DS9?

<snip>Oh who am I kidding. You know he will.

I think we'll see Kirk if DSC is successful. Definitely not in the first few seasons, but if the production team starts feeling really good about the series, he is bound to appear IMO.

I'm a big fan of the approach taken by In a Mirror, Darkly. Even though I still like the Kelvin timeline movies, there's a part of me that will always wonder how good the bridge could have looked if they had designed it look like the TOS bridge but with a 2009 budget.

So what I want is the design aesthetic and principles of The Cage, but with a 2017 budget. I wouldn't mind a few callouts to ENT but what I really want is what ENT itself did in it's last season, when it (finally) started building towards TOS. I want to see a world that is happening at the same time as The Cage and is 10 years away from WNMHGB.

I want this show to remember its roots.

I expect every little detail in every split-second moment of the show, as well as every last aspect of the stories, to be shamelessly slavish copies of something that we have already seen in past Trek.

Anything less would be criminally disrespectful to the true spirit of Star Trek.

It must also not feature any futuristic technology, the laptops need to be as thick as bricks!

Homages must only be done with subtlety and care.

Lt. Cmd Rainsford: "Computer, I remember reading something somewhere about someone showering with their clothes on."

Computer: *COMPUTING*...Crk... *COMPUTING*...Crk... *SEARCH COMPLETED*...Crk... *NO SUCH EVENT HAS EVER TAKEN PLACE*....Crk... *YET*....

Lt. Cmd Rainsford: "Cool. Just wondering. Anyway, please continue with diagnostic on the forward sensor array."
