How Much For Just The Planet?

Starfleet Engineer

OK, I had to edit this, cuz I think I was being too cruel. I was wondering what people here thought of this book. I'm finding it difficult to get through. I've only recognized one song, Rawhide, and it's just been a grind to make it from one page to the next. Any opinions?

***Spoilers for the ending, but, hey, you shouldn't read this book anyway***

One hundred pages later I've finished the book. Wow. I didn't think it could get worse, but it did. When I read the words "You're on Candid Diplomacy" my mouth dropped open. This book will probably make good kindling in my fireplace.

Really? I thought it was one of the funniest books ever written. The author really knew how to spin a tale, and he did a suburb job on this book. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but with hundreds of Trek books available to you, there's sure to be something else you will enjoy more.

Quick question for you ... Did you enjoy Trouble with Tribbles? I've found that the people who don't enjoy over the top comedy episodes such as that also don't enjoy this book. Maybe it's coincidence. Maybe.

I read this book when it first came out, and I absolutely hated it. I love comedy, but I don't go looking for it in Trek novels.
Based on a similar thread a few years ago, I have been checking for it whenever I visit used book shops looking because I would love to give it another shot.

Normally I ilke humorous books, but HMFJTP? did nothing for me. I liked the late John M. Ford's other Star trek book "The Final Reflection" a lot, though.

Hmmm.... I've always hated the title, but never read it -- will have to pick it up next time I see it in the used bookstores, and see what all the fuss is about. Apparently I'll either hate it or love it, lol.

I actually have the book sitting in my to read pile, and after reading people's comments I think it will be going higher up into my the pile, because I've alwasy loved the comedy episodes of the different series. Some of my favs include, Trouble with Tribbles, Little Green Men, The Magnificent Ferengi(ok I like the Ferengi episodes, sue me) and Bride of Chaotica.

Is there anywhere where I could find a list of all of the songs that are used in the book? Because I doubt I'll be able to identify them just by reading it.

I adore the book, proving that you can't predict what people will find funny. :)

Probably the only Trek novel on record featuring an enraged klingon warrior getting his foot stuck in a toilet.

I like The Trouble with Tribbles. I found this book to be nothing like that episode.

I have Final Reflection and will probably read that next in order to give Mr. Ford's work a second try.

I read this the month it came out...late 80s I think. To me, the best part of the books is the cover. I really didn't care for it. It was kind of far-fetched. If I was in the mood, I probably would have found it humorous and enjoyed it a little more, but it simply didn't do anything for me.

I am happy, though, that some people liked it.

I thought it was completely hilarious. Loved it. I laughed, I cried, I wet myself. I'd read it again, especially if someone were to PM me the actual song titles.
