How Much Does Trek Have to Gross to be Success?

With a $150m budget it needs to make three times this worldwide just to break even. Anything over $600m worldwide at the cinema should be viewed as a success with DVD sales the icing on the cake.

Am sick of hearing this kind of stuff, movies DO NOT need to make x3 there budgets or the film buisness would of gone bankrupt long ago Parmount are not stupid they know the limitations of any TREK box office, people need to stop spreading these kinds of numbers like they are experts in the buissness.... It's a cheap ploy by some people so they can bash it knowing it will not make that much.

worst case I've heard so far is a few fans saying it needs to make around $900 million to be a success :wtf: seriously.

Agreed. We have no idea exactly how much money Paramont has put into this film. That statement is espically true when you consider all the marketing deals Paramont is involved in with Burger King, Verizon, Kellogs etc...

The people who do the marketing and are responsible for the budget get paid a lot of money to understand the dynamics at play here.

My take (which isn't worth much) is that this film is to re-establish the brand name (much like Batman Begins did for that franchise) and attract a new audience for the franchise going forward. Hopefully this is a great film that will build strong word of mouth and make the series "hip" again just as "Batman Begins" and "Casino Royale" did for their respective franchises.

If this film were to make $150 million in the U.S. and perform well overseas I think Paramont would be thrilled and the future would be bright for furthur sequels.
