How many people here are on a REAL first name basis?

Some users are friends on facebook and it is great to see a more personal side of them, and I also know some from exchanging Christmas cards ~ I get a childish glee from receiving post from abroad
Oooh, that sounds fun. I'll try to remember for next year if you want one from NYC! I'd love to get some from abroad.
^ We exchanged the year before but I wasn't able to send cards last year. But I fully intend on sending them out this year. K'Ehleyr is definitely on the list. :bolian:
I love to get cards from abroad. I don't mind getting them from guys, either.
I'm pretty sure K' will put up an x-mas-card thread again this year (or someone else might
wink2.gif
) then we can all exchange addys again... I only have two T-BBS'ers on my 'card list' and would welcome a few more!
I got the most amazing card from Norway/Denmark (God he's going to kill me that can't remember!) But it's still displayed in my sitting room and people ask 'where did you get that from?' 'Oh a friend on my Trek site' and then their eyes go all glassy

Strange, just last WE I had to show a friend the Dickensian X-mas-card you sent me last year -but I think I have packed away ALL of the x-mas stuff now :rommie:

To the OP: I think I know about half a dozen first names, maybe more, I just don't see the point of remembering them as board communication functions smoothly with our 'usernames' which -apart from the anonymity they offer- are names we have chosen ourselves -as opposed to our first names which were (in most cases) a compromise between what our dad's and what our mum's wanted to call us and fashionable to call your child at the time within your little geo-socio-ethnic-whatever group.

I MUCH prefer using nick's when talking with people here (or anywhere else on-line).

But you've never seen or heard my version of "Hey Big Spender" ;)

One of my life's greatest regrets. :sigh:

And I do it in high heels whilst peeling off gloves ;)

Oouch!
There will definately be Christmas card thread again next year ~ and I hope to get more people involved. :)

The competition is on :klingon:

Sea Shepherd tee was a joke, though I do support it.
I have actaully no desire to visit Japan, and I don't have any real reason behind it.

You don't think there'll be one this year? :(

:p You know what I meant! ;)

I suddenly have even more incentive to travel east! How are you with duets? I'll be Sonny if you'll be Cher.

"They say we're young and we don't know..."
You won't have to travel that far East ~ I'm only in Sussex :D

Heh, I'm currently reading a book set in 14th century Devon and one of the characters keeps going on about how wild and remote and removed from civilisation the county is. Not much change over the past 700 years, then.

Have to ask... what does it mean in English speaking countries if you're on a "first name basis"?

We don't have different versions of "you" in English.
Parts of the United States, namely the South, do have different versions of "you" in English. Here we say "You" (singular/formal) or "You all-- Y'all" (plural/informal).

Q. Why is the sky Carolina blue?
A. Because God is a Tarheel, y'all.:techman:

As Master Yoda might say: "In my bunk, I will be..." :D

Down Boy!

:p That's Devon ~ here is Sussex we are totally civilised. We have a bath (in the tub in the kitchen) once a month whether we need one or not!

Bathing? That's just for livestock the day before the county fair. Uppity townies...
