How Many Of You...?

Have problems making friends when you act like yourself? Seriously, I have to pretend to be a completely different person in order to get along with people. It's really got me thinking that either I need to become someone different altogether, or realize that people just suck.

I've had people not like me for being myself. But I have plenty of people who like me for me. I couldn't imagine pretending to be someone else for the approval of others. I won't share all the same interests with them (I have only a handful of friends that I can talk Trek with) but I don't have to pretend.

This is how I feel. If the friendship is not based on truth, the entire friendship is a lie. What's the point of that?

I have ZERO Trekkie friends. The only other person I know who loves it is my brother. My best friend pretty much laughed at me when she found out I was getting into it. I guess it was a bit... unexpected? But, that's what makes real friendship so awesome. I can be myself... and whether or not my friends like ALL of the same things I like, it doesn't matter. We accept eachother anyway.

If one of my friends incredulously asked "You're a Star Trek fan?!"

I would simply respond: "Yeah. Why aren't you? This shit's the shyte!"

:D

When she asked how that happened, I believe my response was something like "...Because it's awesome!?". She just laughed again. (Everyone laughs at meeeee!:p)

I accept her True Blood obsession, which is much harder to do, IMO.

Yeah.

I mean, another run-of-the-mill Vampire show that will most likely be forgotten in a few years or a science fiction legacy that's stood the test of time for 45 years?

I won't laugh at you.

If two people share ALL the same interests, attitudes, and opinions, that makes for a pretty boring friendship. You might as well have conversations with your reflection in the mirror.

You mean that's not considered "normal"? :o
