I just downloaded and installed Skype on my computer after a good while of not wanting to bother with it(thinking it was just another stupid online fad I could easily do without to save time) and am listed under "cooleddie74." How many of the rest of you Skype? I'm pretty new to it but its actually kinda fun...my webcam isn't working right now(need a new one)but I invested in some new headphones at Best Buy the other day and i like using them to Skype a few friends. Its easier than calling them. :)

I use it daily. I have a premium account and I actually have a dedicated phone number people can call to voice chat or leave Voicemail. Video I typically use for close friends and family.

Skype is really my primary connection to home. I love that I could purchase a 330 (Ohio number) that my friends and family can have in their phones.

Also, at my old job, I encouraged the use of Skype and headsets to replace expensive international calls, record international podcast interviews, and hold meetings in my boss's absence.

Hardly a fad, Skype is extremely useful for people out of touch (I'm in Japan) or as a cheap communication alternative for small businesses. Also, these days the chat function is far more reliable than what Facebook is using...

My good friends on here are more than welcome to Skype with me if they would like to. To tell the truth, I've heard VERY few of your voices over the past ten years I've been in the BBS...I know several of you have wanted to call and chat with me in the past but for one reason or another it never worked out. Feel free, guys...I wouldn't have bothered with Skype if I didn't want to use it.:p

I haven't had a use for it yet. The only person I know who uses it is my sister who is away for college in another state. She Skypes my parents and other sisters occasionally, but I've never been very close to her, and I hate talking on the phone or over video chat anyway, so I haven't felt the need to install it. I may use it in the future if it becomes useful.

I use it when I have to, generally for overseas family. Not my favourite form of communication though. Probably because there was a period of about a year when I had no choice but to use it. I prefer hands-free calls, because that allows me to go about my business as usual as I talk, or well thought out long emails - they're alwsys cool to get.

I tried to talk to my mom when I was away at school but she was too technologically stupid to figure it out.

Use it quite a bit to chat with family here in the US, but also our son over in Europe. It's nice to see them and hear them. Cool thing.

I have installed on my computer, but haven't used in it in over a year. The main use for me is to talk to family.

I am in New Zealand and my family and friends are mostly in Germany. I use Skype (but also phone, letters, cards, e-mail) to keep in touch with them. Before going to NZ I did not use it.

I use it to communicate with a couple long-distance friends... only about one video call a week on average.

I'm finding it a lot more useful as the days pass. It's free...and certainly beats my old school habit of placing cell phone calls...or long distance from a land line with the ensuing costs. And, at least from my POV, Skype calls *sound* better than cell phone calls. More crystal clear. I like it.

I use it. I like Facetime and the video component of iChat better if only because you can video conference much more easily with those programs than with Skype.

I have an account and use it so my daughter can see and chat with Grandma. With credit it was infinitely cheaper than making an international roaming call from NYC, though I did need to pop into a library doorway or find a cafe with Wi-Fi (incredibly not all of them have Wi-Fi in NYC).

My webcam works, but I don't do sex chat, so please, no full-frontal nudity.

I do think iChat is more stable, though the resolution isn't as good as Skype (this might account for it).

To be frank, if it weren't 100% free I don't know if I would have ever bothered with it. Not to sound like a cheapskate...but I've already spent enough on hardware and software since I got this computer.

I like to Skype with my best buddy while we play some Modern Warfare 2 or Diablo II. Ranting about incompetent teammates and quick-scoping assholes on the enemy team is a lot of fun. Okay, most of the time we're talking women. :p;)

If your mobile provider allows it (3 was the first to sanction it here) then using Skype credit to phone regular numbers from your mobile is brilliant because £10-20 worth of credit will last forever. I was making calls lasting 5-15min. that would easily have used all of that in roaming charges and it literally cost me 10-15p.

I use it from time to time. I find it invaluable to talk to people and see them at the same time when they're far away.
