How many newbies will last?

Can I just say...as a "noob" who was planning on sticking around, reading some of the posts in this thread has almost made me reconsider. When did your post count have any bearing on your validity as a member of a community?

Also, I resent the assumption that all "noobs" have never seen any Trek besides the new film. Yes, I joined because I saw the movie. Mainly because watching ST09 brought up all sorts of ideas/questions which my friends were 100% not interested in! So I joined a board in order to have those discussions with people who know what I'm on about. You may be surprised to learn that, shock horror, I've actually seen all the other series!

Anyway. There's my 2 cents. We'll see if I stick.

Won't be surprised at all - the new Trek movie is all about re-awakening interest in the franchise. If it has for you then fantastic!

... However, it may indicate that a lot of the new posters are people who never previously considered themselves ardent enough to join a Trek community, but are now excited about the franchise due to the new film.

*raises hand* Present!

Just curiosity. It stands to reason that not all of these people will stick around.

Ain't it the truth on any message board!

I got accounts on several disparate message boards and wikis. On some im sort of perenial ebbing and flowing making a few posts/edits a week for a few months then not, but always lurking. On others, The shows that they covered were canceled, so I saw no reason to continue posting there.

I'll probably be more of a lurker here than one to post post like mad to climb to Admiral

I think you may have taken certain comments in this thread a little too seriously.

Perhaps the posters of certain comments to which I was referring take this message board too seriously.

^ Oh, most of us have been here too long to take it seriously anymore. Imagine the 'serious' comments said in a squeaky, breaking, adolescent style voice and it'll all make sense. :)

I hope you stick around, braindeer, I like your comments. And Nick's okay too, his hoax thread's a lot of fun.

I suppose the big difference is that you guys post here, where the ones that are anticipated to fall away will post primarily or only in the TrekXI thread, and fade as interest in the move drops down.

Actually, looking in a bunch of threads, I've noticed quite a few new names with low ranks. I like it. We said all along this place needed fresh blood, and it seems to be working. In another few months, the rest of the board should be quite lively, as they spread their wings. So braindeer and NickInABox are ahead of the curve. As all smart Trekkies should be. :techman:

Then answer my question. I kept seeing this same message since of my arrival! :scream:

Supreme Admiral that's so trolls and spammers can't readily post pr0n on the TrekBBS. Don't worry, you'll get to the magical two-week/50-post stage soon enough :)
