How many men does it take to....

Miss C, where I live in NSW it's about $5/wk, unless you use over your allocation, which is pretty big anyway. For you, it might be subsidised, ask Centrelink or similar.

I phoned up the Housing Department and they said that, at the present time, they will not be expecting us to pay for our water. They will however investigate those tenants whose water use is excessive.

They wouldn't tell me if we will be paying when all Housing Department homes are finally metered.

You'll get a note in the mail letting you know that you are responsible for paying the day after someone shuts off your water for nonpayment.

I have never NOT had a water meter.

Water bills are so weird, though. We only get one 4 times a year, and I always forget about them until they show up.

That said, I honestly can't remember the last time I actually had to pay for water. Normally that is the responsibility of the property owner (for me, it was either the apartment complex or the landlord of my house).

Sometimes your landlord fails to pay the water bill, and then they turn it off for 3 days (I'm looking at you, Last Week).

I've no idea if I have a water meter or not; I think I do. I've never needed to know. Anyway, I pay about £200 a year, roughly.

Could be either, I think average non-metered water rate bills are about £200 - £250 p/a for most of the country.

Where I live they are £500 p/a because we have to pay to clean up the beaches after you lot! So it benefits me very greatly to have a water meter.

There's an old story from the days of the depression when Roosevelt launched the Works Progress Administration (WPA) as a job creation effort.

How many men does it take to mow a yard? Eight!
Two coming,
Two going,
Two shitting,
Two mowing.

Some days, it approaches being true.
