It would take awhile to get clearance from the fire department possibly. Then maybe permits to start construction, not to mention deciding whether or not to rebuild, waiting for insurance claims to go through. Actual construction would probably take at minimum a few months depending on the damage and size of the building.

A fast-food place a few miles away burned. 2 weeks later it was leveled. The next day construction started. It took about 2 months from destruction to opening. We were amazed it was done so fast.

^Big fast food chains have teams that do nothing but build new locations. It speeds things up alot.

Rebuilding also depends on the age of the building. Plans have to be updated to current safety codes. You can't just rebuild an exact replica.

What kind of restaurant or nightclub? I've been to a nightclub that was a big old brick warehouse. I'd say size and what's left of it matters. Location matters too.

Yanno, restaurants and nightclubs aren't all same...? They come in many different sizes and shapes. Is the entire building the restaurant/nightclub. What kind of building is it? Is it out in the country where taxes might be less of an issue or in a downtown area of a big city? Is there a specific place you have in mind? Your question is very general and there are too many possible answers.

Alright. Specifics: the entire building is a nightclub. It takes place in the downtown area of a big city in the country. And no, I have no intention of burning down my business or anyone else's. I ask the question because it's for a story I'm writing.

Well like with anything, it takes as long as the plot dictates it needs to take. But you are still talking a couple of months minimum. After all not only does it have to be rebuild it has to be fitted out.

If the building is heavily damaged, it may need to be torn down and a new one put in.

This is pretty timely. Heh.

The McDonald's across from my office is closing tomorrow night, and will then be torn down and rebuilt. They plan to be open for The week of Thanksgiving. That's pretty quick.
