No. They let their dissatisfaction with the bureaucratic process become so intense, that they turned power over to an autocratic leader and gave him complete control over a military that lacked its own will.Isn't that what happened in Star Wars?
Really, I think it would be awesome if the utopian society showed some flaws that the heroes couldn't solve weekly. That's were good storytelling comes from.
And what if the writer disagree?Being fictional, the Federation will last as long as the writers want it to.
