How long is the filming of Star Trek XI supposed to take?

Although in that case, 100 minutes was too much

I disagree. The super duper space dune buggy sequence wasn't nearly long enough. And the deployment of the super duper Romulan weapon at the end was clearly rushed.

I agree. I remember reading somewhere around when Nemesis was released that Berman (I think) wanted TREK films to be under 100 minutes. Although in that case, 100 minutes was too much

It's going to be easy to top that one. Won't take more than ten.

How long the movie takes to shoot doesn't have a thing to do with how long the finished film is upon release.

I was thinking that. I could film 8 hours of paint drying, and release it uncut to cinemas nationwide, or i could spend months filming an intricate nature documentary and cut it to 40 minutes.

March? And then sit on it for 8-9 months? :(

Is that somehow unusual? It's common for films to sometimes take up to a year to complete after filming. And if you want to see how "well" a film turns out when it's rush-released, just remind yourself of Generations.

It's on par with the new Bond film, which likewise will be in post-production for awhile. And even with 8-9 month between filming and release, that's often not enough time. Just ask Robert Wise (well, if he were still alive) about his experience with Star Trek TMP. Filming was long finished and he was still unable to deliver a completed film in time for its premiere.

Also, there will probably be test screenings of this film just as there have been for other Trek films. And Abrams needs time to retool things in case of unexpected reactions (using Generations again, remember how Kirk's death had to be refilmed after test screenings). If riots break out in the pre-screenings because the Enterprise has the wrong number of rivets on the secondary hull, there has to be time to fix that. ;)

Cheers!

Alex
