How Long Is It?

As long as we can get past Rick Berman's self imposed limit of 100 minutes, I don't care. He mentioned that somewhere around the release of Nemesis. Ridiculous to me. If you have a good story and it takes 110 or 120 minutes to tell it, so what.
And what's wrong if it only takes 80 minutes to tell a good story?

Do you think there is some relationship between movie quality and movie length?

---------------

I enjoyed Nemesis. Really, I did. But I think it would have been far, far better with another ten minutes on it. Berman's time limit--among soooo many other problems--helped kill that movie dead.

Paramount made Berman keep the movies down below 120, he never put a self-imposed limit on them. And the claim of 100 minutes is also false; none of the TNG films were that short (GEN was 1:58, FC was 1:51, INS was 1:43; NEM was 1:56), and the Harve Bennett-produced TSFS (1:45) and TFF (1:47) were almost as short as INS.

Thanks for the info Cardinal, I had always interpreted Berman's comments as his own idea of what length TREK features should be.

Yes and no. Yes if you have to edit out essential scenes, for lack of a better term, because you are aiming for a movie length target, then yes I do feel it could impact the quality.

No, because if you have a tightly written script and the story can be conveyed in 20, 30 or 80 minutes and it provides a quality experience, so be it.

As long as it needs to be to tell the story it wants to tell, but hopefully that story it wants to tell fits in under 180 minutes.

I think it should start at the beginning of the story and finish at the end. Any longer is pointless, the characters will be just standing around, or perhaps eating or something; any shorter and we won't see the last bit.

Re: How long is it?

Its still being shot so it hasn't been edited.

No time frame as yet.

Look for 2hrs to 2hrs15min IMO
