How Long Have You Been on TBBS?

Hi blab & Dukat Major,

Long time no see! Real life is a pain in the proverbial ass sometimes.. :o
It took me four bloody years to become a Vice Admiral.
And just like that.. I'm a Cadet again. :shifty:

Hey Squirrley man! Doesn't look like you're a Cadet anymore.

Omny!!!!! :bolian::bolian::bolian:

Thanks, great to see you, too. Real life has been sooo busy...even now I feel the book pulling me away.
:techman:
How's SPELMOED? :)

My paycheck says otherwise! :p

You should show them how you're a Vice admiral and then start ordering everyone around. It'll go over great.

Joined in 2004 as Elmo Dukat. Left a couple years ago, now back as Dukat's Major for uh---one day so far. ;)

...still getting used to new vBulletin stuff. Bah!

:cardie::bolian:

That famous TBBS boomerang effect taking place again... :hugegrin:

Welcome back, Dukat! :techman:

Hey, An Officer!!! You rock :) Thanks for the welcome...oh no, have I been boomeranged? ;) That's okay. I'm happy to be back, happy to chat with people I haven't spoken to in a long time, see familiar faces...I definitely missed you!

I'm going to be working on more research this summer and maybe another paper (just got one published).

That looks quite interesting. :) It reminds me of something I did earlier in the month, looking at fluid flows rather than automata. These are normally solved numerically over a square lattice, but I thought about how they might be solved over a more general network topology.

I made a little simulation. :p

Hey, that's neat! That reminds me of this CA Demonstration on fluid flows, combined with CAs on a more general network topology (like I've been investigating).

One could in fact think of the general mechanism of fluid flows taking place on a more complicated topology than just a regular lattice...I mean, you have currents, places where things eddy, boundaries, obstacles --- if you want I can get you a PDF of my paper. Just PM SPOCKED (I don't have PM abilities yet). I do something you might find really interesting in the last few pages, having to do with visualizing forest fires over a more general topology rather than just a square lattice.

I imagine for fluid flows one could use a network-optimized computational model to then go back to the lattice as it were, though now have the ability to insert dead holes (like obstacles and boundaries), wormholes (connections from one point of the lattice to a geographically distant point, like how I'd express a current), and so on.

There have been many times over the last couple of years that I wished you were still here!

You'll find the place much more sedate than when you left it. Enjoy! :D

I'm sorry :o Trust me, I'm much better for the break...I really needed some time to figure some things out.

Wow! That's ironic too, because I spent the last year battling trolls on my blog and I now feel quite immune and/or disinterested in internet drama. But maybe that's just because I tend to avoid political things now unless I'm in a particular community devoted to those things ;)

I guess that's how large messageboards tend to evolve --- in and out of tumultuous periods.

Glad you're all vacationed and figured. Sounds like a winning combination. :D

Thank goodness for that! Or we'd all have left, with the last one of us turning out the lights. :rommie:

As to the trolls on your blog... those poor bastards - they messed with the wrong marine. :D
