How long does it take you to choose a username?

For this site it was about 10 seconds, was so happy it was available.

I use a variation of it on most other sites, on sites I don't want anyone to ever know I posted at I use a totally different gibberish name ;)

Every time I see your name, I think of my old time clock when I worked at a (now defunct) department store.

When I resolved to become a member here, I had a name already in mind that I could sync up with an avatar that I had used elsewhere. Well, I experienced vapor lock when taking those first routine steps and wound up entering what I was going to use as my password for the username. I got a bit agitated about my miscue, really wanting the original choice, and tried submitting a query to a moderator to see if it could be reset.

Due to the ridiculous (and ineffective) means I used to send said message, I never got a response. The thread that was the catalyst for my wanting to join quickly petered out, adding to my frustration and allowing my usual timorousness to set in. So, I soon told myself that the original motivation wasn't sufficient to bother and threw up my hands.

I still logged in every now and then. About a year and a half later I came across another thread that spontaneously sparked an interest again and I said, the hell with it, I'll use what's there, lain dormant all that time, and just dip my toe in the water. At least I think that's how I remember it.

Oh, yes.... to actually address this thread, I have a set of old reliables, with a decent mix of all of the proper food groups, that I plug in regardless of specific use. They are all essentially names of places or people that I find particularly distinctive or interesting and I vary this small roster by a digit or two to get around the history hangup at sites that are inclined to be so persnickety. :)

My dad is 63 and computers have been a passion of his since the '70s. He actually bought a Commodore PET when they came out in 1977! There may be a few things he's not that knowledgeable of, but I often come to him with computer questions. Except anything Apple. He knows jack about that stuff.

So he's an Apple Jack? :rommie: Seriously though, it didn't take me long at all to choose a username. This is the same one I use on one or two other sites.
