How is there no Red Dead Redemption thread here???

Until now, anyway.

I like westerns but I think the GTA series sucks balls so I completely ignored this one until a few weeks ago when I watched a few videos on GameTrailers. My jaw nearly hit the floor upon seeing what Rockstar was aiming for...it looks to be about as far away from GTA as you can get, which IMO is a good thing.

Some of the more awesome videos to give you an idea of what RDR is about:

Pre-ordered mine from Amazon and received a $20 credit...can't beat that. I'm looking forward to a big change of pace from all the modern-day and futuristic FPS and 3PS games out there.

/shill mode. :)

Dunno why this one has slipped under the radar, I've been watching it a while now and the vids are like viagra .

I also pre-ordered it a while back so I locked in the $56.99 price tag, That coupled with a $10.00 gift card from another game brought my grand total to $46.99 for RDR, another woodie. :techman:

Now that they bumped the discount card from $10.00 to $20.00 my girlfriend doesn't wanna be anywhere near me.:guffaw:

I'm surprised there haven't been more responses to this thread. By the looks of it, this game comes closer than any other to capturing what I would consider to be the ideal game experience: open and interactive world, free roaming multiplayer, an intriguing and well-developed backstory, and an appreciation for history. I don't even have a console to play it on, and I'm getting the game!

By the way, IGN has posted a new Launch trailer that has a nice, cinematic quality to it:

I am planning on getting this, the first game on the PS2, Red Dead Revolver, was great as well...
Then there is 3d Dot Hero and Modnation Racers as well...

it looks good... but i'm wary of Rockstar games... they all look good, but they all play like crap. shooting in GTA 4 was bad... yes it was better than 3, but that isnt saying much. i'll need to wait for a demo or reviews to see if they fix their control issues before deciding if i'll pick it up or not.

From what I've heard, the controls are very similar to GTA IV but movement is a bit more fluid, and riding horses is nothing like driving a car, of course. That's fine by me, once I got used to the controls in GTA IV I loved them.

I come at it from the other end, I don't like Westerns but I love the GTA games (and other sandbox games that were influenced by GTA) so I wasn't paying much attention to RDR. But last month I saw one of the gameplay trailers I was really impressed by the possibilities and since then I've been eagerly looking forward to the 21st. It sounds like they've taken some Mass Effect style RPG elements and put them in a GTA style game, so it sounds perfect for me.

Also, you get to shoot bears with a cannon. :techman:

Tuesday in the US, Friday in Europe. And the first reviews have been very positive: a 9, 9.75 and a perfect 10.

It's also interesting to note that this is the game that Rockstar's RAGE engine was originally designed for (or so I hear). It seems weird to think that GTA IV, which was one of the biggest and most hyped games of all time, was considered by some at Rockstar San Diego as a testbed for RDR, but RDR isn't getting anywhere near the attention of GTA IV.

I actually agree with you. I'm REALLY hoping the move away from an urban environment to the wild west has given the developers some new insight on how to make the game fun.

If not, I'm pretty certain I'll be able to sell it for little to no loss. :)

Preordered it a few weeks ago. Just waiting for it to ship. Guess I need to hurry up and finish the Ballard of Gay Tony.

Here's a video spoiling one of the achievements in the game. Do not watch if you're easily offended or one of those people who likes to remain spoiler free. If you do watch it, watch the whole thing--the payoff is well worth it.

I can't wait for Fox News to get a hold of this one and declare RDR as the cause of everything wrong with the world.

If you're a Toys R Us rewards member and buy the game between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, they'll give you a $25 gift card.

Where's mine??! I'm an Amazon Prime member but no confirmation email for me and no shipping information--it just says "Shipping soon". :(

Hm, i have to spread the money a bit...
4 titles that i'm interested in and it ain't even November...
Red Dead Revolver, Modnation Racers, 3D Dot Hero and Split/Second...
And Blur looks like fun as well, whenever that comes out, as well as GT5...
*looks at wallet*
*sighs*

I've been sold on this game by what seems to be an armada of co-workers.

I later saw the screenshots and trailers for myself, and WOW am I EVER SOLD!
