How is the Belle Terre mission doing?

Especially from the perspective that the colony was established and life moves on. We haven't seen them for years....what happened to them? What sort of government did they set up? How did they get along over the long term with the alien races in that section of space?

Government? On Belle Terre? Perish the thought. If any such entity did arise, no doubt it would be overthrown in good order by the free citizens of Belle Terre, their manly bosoms heaving with patriotic fervour.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

They had a governor the whole time, so they already have a government. Just not a really effective one.

Whatever interesting happened on Belle Terre, it would have to happen relatively quickly. Starfleet went there once already, and odds are that it would be back, sooner rather than later. And while Kirk might do a few things in his power to keep the renegade colony as renegade as possible (because during this book series he for some reason likes renegade colonies even though earlier on he ate those for breakfast and shat out perfect conformists), Kirk's days as a power figure in Starfleet would soon be numbered. The next starship to show up would be a decisive turn in the history of the colony - and supposedly Carey had such a confrontation planned out for the next book in the series. Even the name of the starship was bandied about, IIRC.
