I always liked the Borg nature of Seven and wished the writers hadn't been so stuck on getting her to embrace her humanity. Having been developed in a maturation chamber, as I recall, she was made to be Seven of Nine. I found it hard to believe she took removing the Borg technology any better than I'd take having my arms and legs cut off. It was alluded to once in an early season 4 episode but otherwise largely forgotten. I never saw her as emotionally young, than as Borg. I never really bought into there being any Annika Hansen left to get back to.And for me Seven was physically in her 20's, she was emotionally a little girl so that's why it was there for me.

Aw, that explains it. For me she looks older, specially near the end of the serie, and sometimes Kate looks younger, so I do not see their age difference that big.

I had hoped after Seven briefly went back to the Borg and the Queen said the Borg had allowed her to stay on Voyager that they might have used that as a character arc. Leaving the audience to wonder for a while whether Seven might be still working for the Borg or be on Voyager's side.
Gov Kodos - I agree with you. One of the things that annoyed me to no end in the serie is was the urge to make Seven 'human'. Seven is unique. Borg is a very important part of her nature and trying to remove it, to make her more like the rest of the crew, it is like trying to delete that part that makes her special, as if being part borg was a bad thing. I do not see people pushing to make Vulcans 'funnier' or more open, but they kept pushing Seven.

I always imagined her tolerance for Joxer was that he may have had a lot of similarity to her dead brother. His death was one of the things that pushed her on to become what she was. I imagined that was why she had the patience for him that she'd never have for anyone else. I always could more believe they were soul mates than Xena and Gabrielle. Rene O'Conner was great as Gabby, I just could never believe Xena putting up with her annoying girl schtick.

Oh, there is much to dislike about Joxer, my favorite use was the 'Groundhog Day' take off where Xena wakes up and buries the Chakram in him. The smile on her face as she goes back to sleep, Gabby's utter horror at what Xena did.

I believe some of it is because as a Borg she is without country and people because she is severed from the collective. Her way to move forward is with humanity. I also think she seems to want to get along with people, to fit in with Voyager's crew because she loathes being alone and any time you have to fit into an alien culture you have to "adapt". Maybe adapting to become a part of the Voyager collective was a way of embracing her Borg identity in a way. It pains 7 not to be efficient, and it is more efficient to be a part of the Voyager collective.
At first I thought it totally ridiculous that someone raised from the age of 7 in a maturation chamber would have ANY connection to human life but I think we underestimate the effect of assimilating and hearing millions of minds and emotions and lives as the Borg. Certainly they ache to reclaim that as we see in Unimatrix Zero. In order to be Borg they have to actually experience far more non-Borg life than any individual does. It's an interesting paradox.

I agree with you here too, but I still dislike that they tried to make Seven too human. She is part borg and that what makes her unique. I hate when in fics or in the books I think, they removed all their implants and made her kinda full human and use Annika instead Seven. Does it mean that as Seven, with her borg part, she wasn't good enough?
