How is Janeway sexy?

Yes, it's done in photoshop. I always do my drawings with this program.

This drawing is a redo of an old pirate drawing (you can see it in the first step, more light than the face) I kept the old drawing in the background as a reference. The face is the actual drawing and I drew it over the old drawing to see if it would fit with the pose.

Yes, all is drew by hand, the only texture used was one on the leather belt, the chest one, to help it to look more realistic. There was no need to use it because those textures could be drawn, but I liked how it looked and I kept it.
The shadows are done by hand too. I play with them trying to make the drawing more realistic.

Yes, when I colour a B&W drawing, like this one, I do the same you do when colouring a B&W photo. I add a new layer with the color I want (in color mode) I merge the layers and them I adjust the colors with different photoshop options until I get the right tone, the tone I want, then I work in lights and shadows by adding them by hand.

It's all about spending time, a lot of time and enjoying working on details, being a perfectionist. This drawing is HUGE, I made to print it, so the details get a bit lost when you look at the small version.

All of that just sounds to art technobabble to me. :)

However you did it, it's still brilliant :techman:

Believe me, it may sound more complicated that it really is. It's all about details and patience, lots of it.. oh, an enjoy what you do. This is the most important part ;)

Thanks a lot, HBL ^^

Is it all in Photoshop?
Is that a screen capped face on a body you drew yourself?
Did you draw the textures/shadows/etc by hand?

I just spent about nine hours (over the past week) recoloring a black and white photo in Photoshop by adding color layers for each part of the photo and applying them over the original. Is your process anything like that?

HER HAIR. HER FACE. EVERYTHING! The details. It's absolutely wonderful, Spalko!

Oh! I have questions I have questions. *waves hand*

1) I assume you use a tablet? Which sort?

2) Do you use various photos as reference besides the face? The texture of the shirt blows my mind. And it sits so naturally on the frame of the body.

3) How big is the final print size? Maybe you could crop some areas of detail to show them off at full size?

^ Oooh, yes, may I suggest the left hand area as a detail? Love the little wrinkles in the skin on her wrist, and I bet that ring would look fabulous as a close up!

1) Yep, I use a Wacom tablet, BAMBOO model.

2) Yes, if you want realism you need refs, specially for the face. I had a ref for the shirt, but that's the one I used less.

3) I made it to be printed (I wanted a MU J/7 poster) 8366x10865 300ppi

Here you can see the details. :techman:

May I say that I finally see what teacake sees in the Gin Rickey's, I just finally tried one and it was awesome.

I think I might have a few more of these.

That is amazing. Look at the light on the . . . what is that thing called? The pointy metal part that goes through the hole on the belt.

Due the image was larger than the print size I want, I didn't need to go extra realistic in some details because, when resized to a smaller size, the few strokes I painted did the trick (well, and because I was so tired of this drawing that I didn't want to spend more time with it. lol Yes, I'm lazy)

Ring

And no more about drawings because I do not wanna fill this with out of topic posts :o

Spalko you missed a bit, but this thread has a tendency to go way off topic. And then back to KM/Janeway, it's totally fine ;)

Wow, thanks for posting the picture of the ring. It's really amazing how much work you put into this piece.

I will submit for argument's sake that the fact that you are willing to spend so many hours on Janeway art is a testament to her sexiness, and therefore on topic. But I understand if you want to move the conversation along. ;)

Oooh....I'm so frustrated (for many different reasons). I admire/love what Spalko does. Could I emulate? Yes. Would I wish to? ultimately No. I have a slice of Trek universe I can mold to will. That is what we do. We should all appreciate/admire our individual areas without wishing to covet others...

I completely know how you feel lurok.

Except I know I would never stand a chance. Lol. I have horrible drawing skills, I make stick figures look bad.

I'll stick to my videos and writing.
