How irrational am I?

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
I was a little upset when I started to read an article that said that the statue of Greyfriars Bobby had been vandalised. However as I read further I found out this "vandalism" only consisted of a Donald Trump mask being placed over Bobby's head there was no permanent damage done.

I thought to myself 'why would the idea of the vandalism of a statue of a little dog who died in Scotland 132 years ago upset me at all?".

I mentioned it to my son and he said "well I got upset when the cat got killed in the movie Willard". He didn't care about the people getting eaten by rats, just the pussy.

Can you think of anything that upsets you far more than it should?

My kinda guy.

Theres nothing in particular I can think of but I seem to have become emotionally comprimised since my daughter was born. Suddely ER, movie endings, being out of cake... all sad events that may bring a tear to the eye

My roommate told me a story about two dolphins that jumped out of the water, head-butted each other, and died from the collision.

All of my friends started laughing hysterically.

I practically started crying.

Then all my friends started laughing at me.

:(

That's the price of having Human feelings in a world full of thugs and dullards. I'm rather proud of my feelings and feel pity for those who blunder through life insensitively.

As for the statue, why wouldn't anyone be upset if it were vandalized? It's a work of Art like any other. All else being equal, it deserves the same respect as anything else.

But the people concerned did these to over 20 statues including a statue of Queen Victoria and one of Prince Albert but I wasn't upset over those.

In case anyone is interested it seems that Donald Trump is building a golf course in Scotland and certain people don't want it built so they are protesting by doing this to statues.

Miss Chicken, maybe because we're susceptible to stories about loyal dogs. Or in your case, loyal pets.

Was this statue cute? Sometimes puppies are cute, and it's sad when bad things happen to cute things.

Bad + Cute = Sad

Basic math.

Yes, it must be because you're an animal lover. Probably the subconscious idea that people can take care of themselves and pets need to be protected.

Yes, it is such a touching story. He lived with his master John Gray for two years, and then spent the next 14 years guarding his master's grave.

Aye, I feel the same way. No shame in that. That bit in 'I Am Legend' (you'll know which part) left me feeling really sad :(

I think the death penalty upsets me more than it should. Not that it shouldn't upset people a great deal, it being amoral and appalling. Still, even when I get emotionally worked up over things it's generally reasonable and it's not in the same way that I respond to this particular subject. For some reason I can barely tolerate thinking about capital punishment. I have difficulty hearing accounts of it, fictional or non, and I have trouble watching movies or reading books that deal with the subject in more than a peripheral manner. I become actually nauseous when I think about it too long. I don't know why my reaction is so strong.

^^^ You wouldn't have liked the job I once had. It was a historical project that included researching all cases of capital punishment in Tasmania- 551 cases in all, only four of whom were women. There was only three executions in the 20th century, the last in 1946.

And I bet you tear up at the end of Futurama's 'Jurassic Bark'

As often discussed in here.

We are a bunch of softies. :)
