The one episode I saw with the Captain so far he was pretty funny. It's his wife I can't stand.

My opinion on the best way to end this would be having the mother come in at the end, and then SHE sits down with the kids and starts the story of how she met Ted. (basically instant and easy spin-off, if they cast the mother right).

As "out of left field" as the ending might have been, I will say that is was done very well with some good acting from both actors.
