How fast do you read?

Really, really fast, if I'm remotely enjoying the book. If I've been anticipating or really want to read something... I've been forcing myself to read slower. My logic to buying piles of books is that it costs as much as going to a movie- but I can enjoy it longer... so if I read a novel in 2 hours...

re the reading multiple books...

I sometimes read many books at once, but I make sure they are each different genres, or it gets confusing. It's a fairly ADD thing to do, and makes it take longer to finish, if at all. I'm finding that i get through books quicker now if I do one at a time, and I enjoy them more...but it's very tempting...right now I would like to be reading Vanguard and Destiny, but I want to get through Errand Of.

The only time I attempted to read multiple books at once was when I was taking several literature classes at once, all with their own reading lists. So I'd have to plan it all out. At least some of it was poetry, which could usually be gotten through quickly. And I only had to write a journal for one of the classes. Fortunately my memory was usually good enough to keep me from getting too mixed up.

I found it best to do different books in different settings. One I'd read in the morning, one just Saturday afternoons, one in bed, etc. But then I used to only read ST books in the john.

I read about 100 pages per hour in something like a Star Trek book. Denser/more complex texts take me down to about 60 pages per hour.

I can zoom through a novel in a day, but find that I enjoy it more if I slow the pace down, occasionally put the book to the side. usually have more than one book going at a time. One in my school bag, on the coffee table, one in the bathroom.

I've never given it much thought, but I guess I must read something like 50 or so pages an hour but like so many people on here, this can vary from book to book.

As for reading more than one book at a time, I can't really do that, sometimes I'll read a non fiction and fiction book in conjunction, but when it comes to one or more fictional stories, I just can't do that - what I tend to do is put the first down and resume it once I've finished the second one.

I can usually read 50-60 pages per hour if I'm interested in the book. Faster if I'm very interested. I also tend to read faster when the book is in first person and follows a single character throughout.

It always varies with me. Depends what is going on around me, how much I enjoy the book - hell, even the font size has an effect on me.

I read Deathly Hallows in about 8 hours. So I reckon I could do 2/3 Trek books in that time.

But, then again, I'm reading Pride and Prejudice at the moment, during my 45 minute bus journey, and sometimes getting through only 4 chapters reading pretty constantly on my iPod, because I'm having to think about the language and meaning a whole lot more than in HP/Trek books/my usual reads.
