No idea if he's a complete scumbag. Jim sure didn't like him though.
^I REALLY got that feeling after watching the deleted scene with "Uncle Frank", Jimmy, and Sam/Johnny.

Remember, in this timeline the father has never met Jim. So... meet him when he was a baby (like 1 day before the Narada event?) Meet him 10 years post Narada, which implies a timeline change?
Its only natural to want to 'meet your father who died the day you were born', but they have no common frame of reference. The only way they get that common frame is if they change the Narada incident, and he lives... in which case Jim changes along with him.
