How far do Nausicaans wander in search of plunder?!

I'm currently reading Titan: The Red King and, having not read any of the Lost Era books, this is my first exposure to the Neyel. I went to Memory Beta to lookup a little background information on them and found it mentioned there that about a year after the Vanguard colony was transported to the small-Magellanic cloud, it was attacked by a Nausicaan raiding party.

Did it seem strange to anyone else that a known and relatively local species would be encountered so far away? It seemed very unlikely to me. Now, keep in mind that I haven't read The Sundered yet so I don't know if it's explained in the book how or why the Nausicaans are there but it just seemed highly unlikely that they'd just be wandering around that far from their normal space unless they'd somehow been transported way out there as well.

That should be "a year before", I believe . They're still in relatively local space when the "Tuskers" make contact. Being Nausicaans, they make contact in more ways than one, sadly.

There were 22nd century Nausicaan pirates met in "Fortunate Son", an episode of "Enterprise".

The encounter with the Nausicaans (or Tuskers) is detailed in The Sundered, and it happens prior to the Neyel winding up in the Magellanic Cloud, IIRC. If it says after in The Red King, then it's probably just a typo

Actually, no, like I said in the OP, I was getting a little background info on Memory Beta that I found that reference so it's Memory Beta that's wrong.

Thanks for clearing it up though. That makes a little more sense. I know most of TLE books are pretty highly recommended by most so I'm sure I'll get around to reading them eventually.
