How do you think they will/might do a spin-off from "Orville?"

It'll certainly be interesting to see what people make of the third episode, with the same sex parents and transgender issues.

Tricky issue for entertainment to do. Though I doubt Trek would have the balls to address it. We're still riding the "we had the first interracial kiss" wave.

And the "first Trek gay character!" thing which might have been a big deal in Voyager or Enterprise. It's more, "We're finally catching up!"

There will be a spin-off pilot staring Adrianne Palicki, but it won't get picked up because...Adrianne Palicki

Now that's it been established as a hit right out of the gate it does make you start thinking down the line. How would one spin-off something that is a clear love letter to TNG. The answer seems clear and that is to do a love letter to something else you might love but is also in the same "universe." Let's say McFarlande loves "Batman."

Maybe on future earth you have a place called Gothic city and you have a superhero and sidekick who goes by the name of Batmale and Blue Jay who travel around in a fixed up space car called the nightmobile. They fight against a evil mime or a guy called the "Dolphin" or "Pun Man" or "Lionwoman." Always carrying around a trusty backpack filled with all sorts of crime fighting tools.

We also know he likes "Back to the Future" so how about a teenage girl goes back to the 80's and has make sure her great, great grandparents fall in love because a future offspring will be a key figure in making space travel a possibility. Basically the options seem kind of endless.

I wouldn't call results of ratings from one episode "a hit right out of the gate". Also, as FOX only ordered 13 episodes for the first season, maybe it would be better to ask "will they get an order for "the back 9 to 11 episodes" (assuming a full season for FOX is 22 - 24 episodes.)

Thirteen isn't an unusual number for a new series. If it succeeds, more episodes will be ordered to complete the season. This has happened before.
