This has been bugging me for a while. How do you pronounce the word genere? as in "I like movies of the sci-fi genere"?

I think its pronounced "jon-rah" but for some reason I usually pronounce it like "jen-ear" in my head even though I think its wrong...

btw I dont know anyone IRL who's a fanguy/girl type so I have never used the word in a conversation or heard anyone actually say it. That's why I dont really know.:alienblush:

It's Jon-rah. I use it at least 30 times a day. You never know when a literary genere war could break out.

First, it's spelled "genre."

And it's pronounced "zhahn-ruh."

And for those that don't know, "zh" is kind of somewhere between a "sh" and "j" sound.

It's borrowed from the French language so I won't even think of another way to pronounce it than the French way (and nobody would understand me  ).

I would. I pronounce it like that, too, and apparently, that's also how it's supposed to be pronounced in English, at least according to this dictionary site (just click on the speaker symbol and then on the play button to hear it pronounced).
