How do you organise your folders?

My boyfriend sorts my computer for me.. Honestly, I am happy just searching for my stuff if I can't find it immidiately.. but now that he organized it for me I just keep adding to it..

My methods can neither be explained nor understood.

I'm pretty OCD about everything. I've got the same general categories as everyone else (music, pictures, documents, etc). All of these folders then have subfolders. For the pictures, it's based on what the pictures are (Summer '07, Trip to X, and so on). For documents, I've got a folder for each class, then one for work related stuff. Music is all dumped into one gigantic folder, I will not go through and categorize all of that.

Basically, if a file isn't in a folder, it's out of place. And I will put it in a folder.

I'm a photographer so I have to keep all my picture folders nice and neat. I organise them by date in the format Year-Month-Day. Everything else is a mess!

I do the same, although I add the name of the event/location at the end so I can see at a glance what's in the folder.

On C: drive...

My Docs \ ([my website], My Pictures, School Work, Old Stuff)

On D drive

Misc Videos
Music
\Albums
\Classical
\Jazz - Electronica
\Soundtracks
\Unsorted
Phoenix Recovery (backup of My Docs, Software, Drivers, Video Game Saves, Everything)
Software - Downloads
Television (*cough)

I also have an E drive with more of the same but that is going to change later this week because I am buying a 1.5tb drive to replace D and E (500gb each). I'll have a duplicate 1.5tb drive at the office for off-site backup with rsync.

This is my home directory:

Downloads - Stuff I download in Opera and Firefox automaticly goes here.
Games - Launch scripts for games and installation point for games that use Wine or games that can't be installed from Portage. I have my "suspicious material" buried somewhere in my Steam installation ;)
Music - All of my music organised by "Artist/[Date] Album/Track Number - Track Name.Extension" for full albums. Incomplete albums follow the same scheme but are in a subdirectory named "Incomplete Albums".
Photos - Photos obviously go in here, different memory cards have their own subdirectories.
Random - I just throw anything I can't categorise in here. This includes silly pictures/videos, guitar tabs, text files containing lists/stuff I need to note down.
Recordings - I dump stuff from digital recording devices here.
Sites - Web design stuff.
Videos - Movies and TV shows generally go in here, though it's not very well organised.
Wallpaper - Wallpapers.

Oh, and NOTHING goes on the desktop! -I hate having that cluttered; I don't ever show icons on the desktop!

You'd have a fit if you saw my mum's computer - she likes to have EVERYTHING on the desktop so she knows where it is. The whole desktop is just icons as far as the eye can see!

Hahaha! That reminds me of both my mom (she's actually a computer whiz, and I live with her), my stepmom (who lives in Texas), and my dad (also lives in Texas). Their desktops are such a mess of shortcuts. >_<

I'm actually trying to get organised...but those random folder names are just too hilarious. XD. I'm currently on my laptop; the other was my desktop.

"Empok Nor" is my big folder right now, and in it is: Coffin, Fat, Garak, oad Trip, Odo, Plok Than, Space. In "Fat" are the folders: Andalite, Crag, Larry, Madeline, Piney, Smock. "Garak" is full of PSD files and Word Documents. "Road Trip" is full of Klingon pictures (lolwut). "Odo" has a folder called "Sleep" and it contains Deep Space Nine screencaps.

And then there is "Cockroach." It's empty. And "Important" has the stuff I use all of the time. And then there's "Yamok Sauce." It's full of music, XD. And "Quark" which contains PSDs and Star Trek pics. And "Your Mom" contains the folders "Bio" and "Poo". LOL XD.
