How do you get around?

I tend to travel...

Walking, buses, subway, rail. It depends where I'm working. Over 1.5-2 miles and I'll generally take a public transport option instead of walking.

It depends on where I am going

If I am going to the local shopping centre which is 1.25km away I walk.

If I am going to the bigger shopping centre about 3.50km away I either catch a bus or walk. Buses are the only form of public transportation in Tasmania.

If I am going into the city centre (9km) , or to my see my mother (about 25km) I catch a bus or two buses to my mothers.

Very occasionally if I have bought something heavy or large at the shopping centre I will catch a taxi home with it. I only need to do that about once every two months.

I have never learnt to drive, I couldn't afford to run/own a car. Because I am a pensioner,-fares only cost me $2.90 for an all-day ticket ($3.40 if I but it before 9.00am). The only time I usually get into a car (besides a taxi) is if I am with my sister on a family outing.

On foot most of the time and public transport (bus, Metro and train). I don't have a drinving license and I don't need it, I've good public transport (when they're not on strike  ). And driving in Paris is a crazy thing to do :wtf:

Mostly walk, take the car for when I'm going somewhere within the town that's too far to walk to our somewhere out of town. When commuting it's mostly public transport.

Sometimes the little things can change my habits. Since I acquired some jute shopping bags from Tesco, I now never go grocery shopping without them, and I'm now encouraged to walk down to the local shops to do my weekly shopping instead. Saves petrol and keeps me active to a certain degree. :)

Walking primarily for social stuff. University shuttle or car to get to work, depending on how late I'm running. Train for regional trips (DC, Philly, NYC etc.). Occasionally water taxi, though the city just got a big grant to expand the free water taxi service and connect it to the free downtown circulator tram/bus thing which comes online later this summer, so I'll probably work more of that in.

Well for 25 years it was public transit. I lived in downtown San Francisco for the last 15 years where owning a car is a nightmare and public transportation takes you everywhere. Then I moved to Southern California. Big difference! Lots of open space and not too many buses. The street I live on has a bus going down it:). The bus comes once an hour:(. I literally had to plan the logistics of the simplest trip before I went everywhere. Fortunately my girlfriend just bought a new car and gave me her old one a few weeks ago. Soooo much better:).

The bus system here sucks, so about 90% of the time I'm in my car. The other 10% of the time I take the car the 18 miles to the light rail station.

I can't lie, you're one of the last people on here I expected to respond saying they take public transit to work. :p

Subway for going to work every day, train every weekend for commuting home, walking for strolling around town and car for going out at night or doing stuff out.

Motorbike. Cheaper than most cars, faster than most cars and no traffic jams or getting stuck behind slow vehicles. If I drove to work it would take an extra 15 minutes, public transport an extra 30 minutes, on foot, an extra 3 hours or so :D

Car. Even though the public transportation network does extend outside of Philadelphia, outside the city it's kind of random and unreliable.
