This is going to sound dreadful, but life's a bit easier for us now that our elderly neighbour has died. We have a shared driveway and he would use the driveway to access his garage. No problem, of course, except that he complained when our kids rode their bikes on the driveway. In fact, he once came out of his back door (which opens on to the driveway) and said this to my autistic, speech-impaired, not-a-scrap-of-road-sense son, which scared the hell out of my poor kid. I didn't say anything because it wouldn't have solved anything (he was the neighbourhood grump, always complaining to someone about something) but my older son took a piece of chalk and drew a line all the way down the driveway, as if to say, "That's our half and there's yours. Fit your car in that space, git!" Husband and I laughed ourselves silly over that.
The thing is, his wife is lovely, and would go around apologising to people if Mr. Git had gone too far and been too offensive. She's been widowed for 2 years now and she's the best neighbour we could have. It makes us wonder whether her life with her husband had been at all happy.
