I believe what Picard is going through is PTSD with a small amount of something else. His exposure to the Collective likely left his brain physically restructured considering he seems to have a lingering psychic link to the Collective. That link might make his PTSD harder to handle since he should find the connection abhorrent. It's also possible all ex-Borg experience some sort of constant disconnected feeling considering how the Collective can be seen as comforting, but that's speculation.
7 existed most of her life as a drone, but once she remembered her history it gave her something to seek as an individual. The impression I have is she does not think of being a drone as traumatic, but that being an individual is strongly preferable. On the other hand, she might see the Collective like a drug, and her whole experience might be interpreted as quitting the collective cold turkey. Her problem forming a new collective seemed like that to me, especially with the question of whether she would want to leave. The overt question of forced slavery seemed like an excuse more than a reason.
What about Hugh? I can't remember clearly how things go for him, except that he quickly comes to value and respect the Enterprise crew. I do know his actor treated the performance like waking up from HIV induced dementia.
There is also Chakotay, he was forced to be part of the Cooperative. I can't remember if he said anything about that.

It also serves to keep people from calling them Borg or drones when they are definitely no longer Borg drones. If everyone accepts xB as the their proper name then it can help everyone get over their history so the xB aren't seen as a menace. It’s taking something that used to be used to shame you and making it a point of pride and something to celebrate. Once it becomes that it can no longer be used to shame you.
