I met my girlfriend online, but in kind of an unusual way. I used to post regularly to a support newsgroup for people with Social Anxiety. I would constantly post about how I was lonely, hated my life, wanted to kill myself(well I guess a few things haven't changed), but I'd also post about the disorder itself. My future GF knew some people with SA so she occasionally read the board too. One day I got an e-mail from my future girlfriend saying she was interested in the disorder and would I mind answering a few questions about it because I seemed like the most intelligent guy on the board. I said sure, but give me some time because I was so busy. A few day later she sent me a funny e-mail to kind of break the ice. I sent her a funny one back. We started e-mailing and found we shared a lot intellectually and culturally. E-mails led to chats, chats led to meeting, meeting led to ten year relationship. I guess it is supremely ironic that after years and years of bemoaning my lack of a relationship I got one through the forum where I was complaining about not having one.

I was awesome and mixed business with pleasure. I met mine at work.

Not sure why people say having a relationship with a co-worker is always bad because mine wasn't. We knew when to be professional and when to be a couple.

(for the record, I do actually know why people say it, I am just saying that not all have a bad outcome).

Anyways, that was almost 6 years ago, we are common law now.

Met my ex-wife in an AOL chatroom called NHL FANS ONLY in 1996.

Alas, the divorce is in progress as we speak.

Through friends. We were friends for close to twenty-five years (we were both just little kids) before we got together. My mom pushed for it for a long time, but back then I couldn't see it. I guess I wasn't ready yet.

Ironically, I had given up hope of meeting anybody, and then we got together. I occasionally kid her about taking pity on me, which she readily admits too.

Wise ass. But a cute wise ass.

I don't currently have a significant other but the woman whom I cared about the most I met almost two years ago in school. I met my best friend in school and she's a woman so that might count as well.

Other, I met my wife at church.
He took my answer!

Well, almost. I met my husband at church. :p

I was just thinking it would be funny if the two sides of a TBBS partnership gave different answers. Glad you two got your stories straight :techman:

I voted met at school, but I guess it would have been as accurate to say we met at a club since where we met was at the role-playing society at university. Been together now... umm... 19 years come November (certainly doesn't feel that long!)

I met my girlfriend at work. It was my second day on the job, and after seeing her name on the schedule I was curious as to who she was, what she was like, what she looked like. When she walked into the store to start her shift, I was mesmerized. I was just completely taken by her. I didn't realize it, but she's told me that I was staring, and that she thought I was a bit of a weirdo as a result.

Once she got to know me, though...well, she still thinks I'm a weirdo, but in a good way. :)

We don't work together anymore, as I got transferred to another store. We are always totally professional at work but my manager caught wind of our fraternization and though he never flat out told me the reason why and though it's not against company policy to date within the store, he transferred me to a store closer to home. I still see her fairly often, and I don't mind the shorter commute. It was awesome to see her every day though. :)

We met when I was a student in one of her classes. We flirted a bit awkwardly that semester as teacher student relationships are a bit weird to start. I didn't want to come out and say anything explicit if I happened to be wrong about her feelings, and she didn't want to lose the job. After the year was over, we met shortly after the next semester began at her apartment and shared a fine evening and our first kiss.....

the rest is history....

Never had a serious relationship, whoever I've only known one woman that I really wanted to have a relationship with that wasn't just a short term hook up. Unfortunately it was not to be.

My girlfriend is the only one I ever met online. I met all my previous girlfriends (not all of my flings, though) IRL.

We met in the 2nd week or so of chatting, had sex and a relationship within the 3rd week week and we lived together within the 4th week. Seriously.

I have no idea how it went that fast. But we've been living together for 4 years. 3/4th of that was being cooped up in a room of 4m by 4m (you know; both students etc) and it's still good. I consider that hopeful. ;)

I almost met my partner at a rave months before we actually met. His friend kept tapping me and my friend on the shoulder and running off. We eventually chased the trickster down and hung out for a while. My partner seems to remember meeting me then, but I don't think so! :)

Anywho, months later we met properly at a city club and are still together 16 years later!
