How did you meet your sweetie?

Valentine's day is coming and I wondered about the wonderful wacky interesting stories about how we all met our sweeties!

The hubs and I were attending the same Junior College but did not meet there; I was working at a Seven Eleven and he began to come around more and more often. 22 years later I guess it's going to work out!

Okay this is the only good story I have in my entire life so even though it is long as hell it is really kind of sweet, and I jump at any chance to tell it.

My girlfriend and I met on a newsgroup devoted to social anxiety. I was a regular poster on one who always talked about how I hated my life and wanted to kill myself(I guess some things never change). She wrote me an e-mail one day saying she was a lurker and knew some people with social anxiety and wanted to know more about it, and since I seemed like the only smart guy there did I mind if she asked me a few questions. I said fine, but I'd have to get back to her in a few days. Well she sent me this funny e-mail to make sure I hadn't forgotten her and I sent her a funny e-mail back. Well after that our talk was about 10% social anxiety and 90% everything else.

We starting e-mailing every day, then instant messaging for hours. This went on for about 3 months and although we never broached the subject of romance it was obvious we were developing deep feelings for each other. Her birthday was coming up and I wanted to buy her this little novelty item she mentioned once to me called a Chinese Fortune Telling Fish. I couldn't find one, but I told her I went looking for one.

I can't get into details, but at the end of three months we had a huge fight related to the mental problems I had that kind of scared her and she was unsure if she could pursue our friendship any longer. I didn't know if I was ever going to hear from her again. I worked as a lobby attendant on the graveyard shift back then and at midnight on Labor Day 1999 I was sitting in my building feeling depressed and alone in the world and wanting to kill myself more than ever. This girl walked in the door so as usual I stood up and greeted her and asked if I could help her. She didn't say a word, but placed something down on the counter. I looked down, and it was a Chinese Fortune Telling Fish. She had driven all the way from L.A. to San Francisco to give it to me. And to tell me she cared for me too much to just say goodbye.

That was 10 years ago and that is the same girl I talk about incessantly in here all the time. It is ironic that we met in a social anxiety group, because she is the one person in the world I never felt anxious around. That's how I know she is special.

What a fun topic this is going to be reading!! ***applause*** to you OP!!

Dark Journey, what an amazingly sweet story yours is. I have to ask...do you see yourself marrying this girl? She sounds really awesome. And, i am offering myself to you as someone you can talk to on those days when you feel that dark cloud enveloping you. I've been doing pretty good with the depression but i do suffer from it too, so i get it. Anytime you might want to talk, I'm here.

My DH and i (we've been married almost 30 years now) met like this: I was a singer in a Rocky Horror/RnR band. Our band had been together a long time and the guys were looking to do original stuff, so we broke up. My agent was also the agent for a Southern Rock band who had just dumped their female singer. He got me an audition with the band even though i wasn't into the type of music they were doing. A job is a job, and I'd still be singing so i figured what the hell.

I walk into the room and there on rhythm guitar was this really cute guy...he also sang lead and i thought, "If it's the last thing i do, i gotta get into this band, just to get to know this guy!" I got the gig and well, 30 years later we are still together. We don't perform anymore....haven't in a million years. But of everyone i know that married around the same time we did, we are the only ones still together. We've had our ups and downs, but he can still make me laugh and we trudge on!

I met my wife 9 years ago completely by chance. We met at a summer internship at a college in Montana while in college. Neither of us attended this school regularly. In fact, I was from New York and she lived on the west coast.

I was 2,500 miles from home and had a chance to see stuff I might never otherwise see. Yellowstone, the Tetons, Glacier National Park, etc. So every weekend I had an idea for an adventure, and she had the car, and off we went. We were both active and outdoorsy, and in college in a tehnical field, so we had a lot in common.

Despite not wanting to become attached due to the distance, we did anyway. We kept in touch for a couple years while she finished college. She moved to New England for grad school, so we were close enough to date and gave it a try. I moved up there with her after I got out of grad school, we got married a couple years later and have been together ever since.

A bodybuilder friend of mine from North Jersey introduced me to her online. I sent her an e-mail, we met two weeks later, made mad passionate love all night and the rest is history. That was 9 years ago..wow.

These are ALL gorgeous and sweet and touching - THANK YOU!

Can't wait to read more about what great catches you've all been!

Dark Journey, your post brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful story! I still haven't met my sweetie. I would love to have a story like yours to tell someday.

I did meet my ex in a fun way, though We first met when he bought ice cream from me in the shop I worked in at in the East Village while in college. We flirted a little, and left it at that. Then, quite randomly, we bumped into eachother again about a month later, on the Upper West Side. We laughed at the coincidence and left it at that. A month later, as I stood waiting for the train in Brooklyn, who should be a few yards away on the same platform? We then decided that three chance meetings in three completely different parts of town were too much to ignore, and we made a plan to meet on purpose. It didn't work out, but it was fun while it lasted.

The girl, I'm dating now, met her at school. She walked in sat behind in class, thought she was beautiful the moment she walked in. Said hi to her, then talked to her a little more and more, asked her out on a date 2nd week of class she agreed. Have been together since then.

Star Trek convention. We're geeks. In our defence, we were in the bar.

That's sweet.

The girl I've been dating, and now living with, I met a few years ago when I was a new university student. She was teaching a course I was taking, and there seemed to be a lot of chemistry between us. She was an attractive 26 year old, and I was 19, about to turn 20. This chemistry went largely untapped and unspoken by the both of us because of the stigmas and dangers we both knew were out there in teacher-student relations. The moment I knew something was really off was when she invited me into her office to talk about a project, and was acting strange, showing all the signs of a crush. She was clumsy, darting quick glances in my direction, and talking in a girlish manner.

Once the semester ended, we started talking on facebook, often late into the night. I was invited to her home one evening, and the crazy make-out session commenced....:p

We have been very happy since.

met my wife online, Star Trek chatroom. Lost touch for about a year, reconnected on a different Star Trek chat server, started chit chatting about life, and just sort of feel into a long distance relationship. 8 months later she came for a visit, we started talking about living together, then couple hours off the bus we got a marriage license, called up my Baptist minister uncle, that weekend (3 days later) we were married.

I am really digging all these ST related meetings! Awesome.

The sweetie of my life came to me in a small plastic-foil wrapper. I unwrapped it and slowly but surely ate it. It was a hazelnut whirl. :bolian:

But seriously, life isn't quite like a box of chocolates, and I have yet to experience this concept of long-term relationships. :(

However, if I was to meet my future wife, I can imagine it would occur something like this...
