Perhaps a naive question but why October 9th? What happened on that day to make it Star Trek day?

The date of the very first episode of TOS in 1966
I don't remember. Posted on here, I guess. Watched the new trailers the next morning.
Ironically, very little related to Star Trek, aside from catching part of the virtual convention. Also, ended up with an unexpected hour of downtime in the evening and caught a rerun of Voyager's Coda.
I was flying to Las Vegas from Seattle. I did catch the trailers and I’m looking forward to Prodigy. However I wish Paramount + was 4K because that would make Prodigy even better.
We did the first rehearsal for our fan film. 
Oh wait, that's every day . . . .
You can have a Star Trek day everyday.
With over 800 episodes, one can watch two and a fifth (or so) episodes per day and then circle back to the start. If one watched every TV series, sans movies, unless you count the movies... of course, if you count the movies and not the TV episodes, it's nigh on a fortnight... "Star Trek Fortnight", but that doesn't sound anywhere near as exciting...
