How did you become this monster?

I started posting online because of issues with Battlestar and the manner in which it ended. Joined the SciFi.com board first, then heard that there was more activity here.

I hate it when OPs just ask a question like this without offering his/her own answer.

Finally someone interested in my secret? :rommie:

Trekbbs is my go-to forum for everything even though I don't post much. I don't know what it is about it, but it really feels like home. I doubt many other forums have so many regulars who stay on for years (and decades!).

Interesting answers from everyone. I was just suddenly curious about how folks here turned from a normal tv viewer to someone who analyze stuff way too much.

I didn't participate in boards and discuss tv shows on the internet before Enterprise. Before, I just watch them.

The fourth season of Enterprise reignited my interest in Trek and made me want to discuss it with other folks, and a simple Google search brought me here. :techman:

I lurked here starting in 02' because I was looking for spoilers about Attack of the Clones. I was also looking for info about Nemesis and Enterprise. I had previously lurked around The Force. Net, super shadow's retarded site and the official Star Trek site for a couple of years. Then as Enterprise died, I sort of stayed away for quite a while. When I heard about the new Star Trek movie while watching Comic Con, I came back. After a few months of lurking, I finally registered. I was only going to stay until after the movie, but then I got hooked and decided to stay.

Deep Space Nine. I occasionally watched TNG and DS9, but then I remember watching the 4th season premiere with Worf "Way of the Warrior" and getting really excited about the big space battle at the end. After that, I made sure to never miss an episode! I got into X-Files shortly after that and that became my other obsession, and it ballooned outwards from there :D

If I understand the question correctly, I became a nerd sometime between second and fourth grade (ca 1986). Up until then, I think I had a pretty good chance of being "normal". I think the catalyst was probably the daily reruns of TOS around dinner time on one of the local stations. Given that is was news, game shows, reruns of sitcoms, or a show with laser guns, it was a pretty safe bet which one I'd be watching.

As for the forum itself, I think my first exposure may have been one of the "five minute" reviews, but I also seem to recall searching for Star Trek news. I have been registered under this account for six years and another one for a few years before that.

 Really, I think you have the best understanding of my question.

Looking for news about Enterprise is what started me lurking here, but it was a Thread about The Shadow (i.e. the old Pulp character) that inspired me to register and post.

Well, as far as that goes, I've been over-analyzing everything I read and watch since the mid-60s; it probably started with an issue of Fantastic Four. I was born with the obsessive writer's mentality. :rommie:

I wasn't much of a scifi nerd when I joined here. I liked Star Trek enough to search for episode reviews, which lead me here. I stayed because of the community things like the weekly reports and Grand Miscellaneous Contests and the NCAA football threads.

I credit the board with getting me hooked on Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Doctor Who, Buffy, & Supernatural.

I only came here after searching the internwebs for the caption contests - initially LOTR themed, then a few DS9 themed caption contests.

This was on a background of being a lifelong Star Trek fan. It was through the films, especially Star Trek III: The Search For Spock that first got me interested; then I got into the local debuts of TNG, DS9 and the first two seasons of VOY, plus the rerun of TOS in the early 90s, and caught the first season of Enterprise. Later I grew to like and admire (later love) the Star Wars films, plus other assorted sci-fi TV (including 7th doctor Who), classic sci-fi books and films a little later, and, once reaching adulthood, really got into the LOTR books and their Jackson film adaptation.

Funnily enough, one of the first things I read about when I got here (thanks to PKTrekGirl) was LOST. A year later, once it made its debut here, I was a certified LOSTie. I can certainly credit her for getting me interested in that show.

This is not the first Trek board in which I have taken residence.

Well if we are deviving into ancient history. I watched Star Trek (TOS), Lost In Space and Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea as a kid. Got into comic books around the same time. My first SF novel experience was Journey To The Centre of the Earth when I was about 9. Been hooked ever since.
