How did Khan capture USS Reliant ?

Much of the theme of that movie was how everyone was getting older and moving on. Too bad we didn't see much of this continue after this movie, with Sulu getting his own ship but everyone else staying where they felt comfortable and retiring as such. I woulda loved to see Chekov as XO of the Excelsior instead of basically being a clueless idiot and comic relief who mostly made Lt. Sex In the City look smarter.
And I also think that taking over the Reliant would have been much easier than the Enterprise, with the CO and XO under his control. Also, the Reliant didn't have a seconary hull for people to isolate themselves in - much simpler to take over.
Just lock someone up in the medical decompression chamber / laundry room and hold everyone else hostage, then tell them that Ceti Alpha V / VI is a wonderful beach paradise that everyone will love.
