How did he get them to stay? LaFleur Spoilers

biotech

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I can understand how he persuaded Juliette to stay, but why did Miles stick around, he doesnt even like Sawyer.

And I assume Daniel didn't get on the sub either.

I can sort of see why Jin wouldnt want to go back as he would assume it was the best way to protect Sun.

Where are they going to go? They can get back to the mainland, but they'll still be in the past. At least if they stay on the island there is a small chance they will be able to go home.

Well, I know I would personally rather stay on the island than go back to the mainland where I would have 0 possibility of going home again.

But you would have 100% chance of becoming a multi-millionaire with your knowledge of the future and we have seen in previous episodes that Miles is all about the money.

I'd rather live in the past in my home town than live on an island where people and things are trying to kill you half the time.

Maybe siince everyone else stayed Miles decided to stay as well, why be the lone one out, maybe his character matured.

Maybe Sawyer is forcing Miles to stay on the Island so he doesn't queer the deal for the rest of them. Juliet stayed because she's in love with Sawyer... Daniel stayed because he's all about the Island...

Him and Sawyer seemed to be getting on well, ironic really, since he only spent three months with Jack, Hurley and Syied, I hope his more long term friendship with Miles and Jin don't get pushed to the wayside by the reunion of his old friends.

That's a really good point. He should be super tight with Jin and Miles by now, but the shared history of those first 3 super intense months has probably forged a bond between the original losties that would be hard to break. Kind of like war buddies. Sure, Miles is good and all, but he wasn't with them in "the shit."

They had about two weeks until the sub went to the mainland again.
Since this is Lost, I honestly belief there is a lot of stuff happening during that time that changes their mind entirely about going home.
Flahback material that will be reaveled during the rest of the season or the next one.

But if Daniel is right then you can't change the past, er, future, er, you know. So how could you go to the mainland and get rich? Take the name of Bill Gates and get rid of the original? Can't kill him because that would mean change.

But you (under a different name) could already have been super rich, your younger version just didn't know.

For example:

During the 80's, 90's & 00's Miles grows up in and does his "ghost hunter" schtick in LA like we've seen in flashbacks. At the same time "older" Miles leaves the island and moves to New York in 1974. He changes his name to Clark Kent and begins playing the stock market knowing what he does of the future to make a fortune over the years. Eventually in 2001 he retires to some tropical location a rich and happy man. In 2004 "young" Miles goes to the Island and eventually ends up leaving it back in time in 1974.

So this is fine, it doesn't affect the timeline, because "old" Miles never tried to interfere with his "younger" self. Nothing we have been shown doesn't contradict this version of events, so you are not messing with the timeline because it already happened that way.

That's what I was thinking. But then the rich Miles would have been earning/making money that the 'first' time around went to someone else, thereby altering the past.

No, the idea is that the first time around, it went to him. He was always in the past, so he's not altering anything.

There is no "first time around". The timeline was always that way. "Rich Miles" would have always existed.

Plus it doesnt have to be shares, you could just make sports bets, or invest in films that you know are huge money makers, hell you could clean up in insurance alone if you keep buying properties in areas that you know are going to get wiped out by natural disasters.
